Oh That MSNuk interview. I got majorly excited when he said he was going to include a personal introduction and even lyrics in the cd! I think kids these days that get all their music digitally are totally missing out on the full experience. I fondly remember clutching the LP cover, pining over the photos, pensively reading the lyrics as I listened to the record spinning on the turntable. yes i know lyrics can be obtained online and a digital photo or "book" may be included with the download. But to me it is just not the same.
thank you adam. You so get it! and for him to not understand the devotion he gets from his fans, it is his humble nature that contributes to that devotion. I swear I would join his cult and sign over my Social Security check if ever given the opportunity. (btw i don't get ss yet!)

Well, good thing we know Adam can kick a door down, if that's what it takes! ;D ;D No trespassing, my ass!!!
And talk about another blockbuster on the 5.5 month plan ... "Rolling in the Deep" was released on Nov. 29; it hit No. 1 on May 11 and sold eleventy bazillion copies since. So expecting a debut single to be peaking by album drop time doesn't always seem to be the only formula. "Someone Like You" wasn't released until August in the U.S., so eight months after first single. Of course, Adele is an anomaly, but still it was a major label with a plan going in and they couldn't have anticipated the phenomenon that would develop beforehand, but they were certain and patient and allowed the song to get under everyone's skin and boy, it did.

That was a seriously GREAT interview. Adam is so respected by most in the music industry (his label, producers, writers, video directors). I just want to see him respected by US radio. And Trespassing is his story---we all know exactly why he titled his album as such and what that title track must mean to him.
I want this era to be successful because I want him to be respected and because I want him to get those great opportunities that ONLY come with chart success; the awards shows, RS articles, SNL, etc.

Do you guys know what a "straw man" argument is? A "straw man" is a technique that involves replacing an opponent's argument with a superficially similar, yet unequivalent position, then refuting it. Usually it's done by oversimplifying a person's position and then demolishing the weak oversimplified version. My thought just being that I think everyone on this board wants Adam to have commercial success and artistic success. We may all want those things with varying levels of intensity and different perceptions based on our own values or life experiences, but nothing about it is exclusionary or either-or. My 2 cents.

Such wonderful new interview videos today. I am amazed that there are only 4 pages. These interviews are great! As to Adam getting the recognition and air play we all think he so richly deserves, I have come to the conclusion that Adam is not, and probably never will be, for everyone's taste. (Shaking my head in bewilderment). Why? 1. Some folks simply do. not. hear. what I hear in his voice. They do not discern the difference between his voice and other pop voices. They do not hear the purity and ring. The control and subtlety. They do not hear the resonance. They do not notice the clear articulation or the interpretive arc in the songs. I would venture to guess that they do not FEEL the voice as I do. Their bodies do not naturally resonate with the frequencies of his voice. I think it goes beyond taste and style preferences, and is intrinsic and organic. 2. Adam does not and will not fit into a comfortable box. Not in his singing style, in his choice (or lack of choice) of genre, not in his presentation, not in his appearance, not in his persona. The only predictable things about Adam are that he will be unpredictable, and he will put on a hell of a performance. Some folks are uncomfortable without boxes or categories. Some folks are uncomfortable with someone who is so obviously unique and undefinable. Who is so not the boy next door (except when he is). 3. Dare I say it? Adam is too complex for some folks' taste. Complex and multi-layered vocally, musically, in terms of image, in terms of personality. One cannot "get" Adam with just a casual listen or look. It takes time and focus to see all his dimensions. Like the Berlin drawing he did. At first glance you think, "Wow. I didn't know he could draw like that. Guy has talents I was not aware of." But, it was only after I read the comments here about all the imagery in the picture, all the cultural references, all the "hidden" facets that I could fully appreciate the work. We fans have taken the time.... lots of it. But, some folks just like to dance and boogy, or put on some homogenous, generic music as background to their daily lives. Adam ain't background. 4. Yes, there is the whole "gay, gay, gay" thing. But, I am not convinced that is as big a factor as some think it is. Still, that may always be an aspect. It is what it is. Having accepted that Adam will never be for everyone, I believe, strongly, that he will have an enduring and successful career. I believe HE is very happy doing just what he is doing right now. He is artistically challenged and satisfied. If he ain't angsting, neither will I. 1. Of course they don't. Not everyone likes Adam's voice. It has nothing to do with if his voice is great or not- some people just don't like the tone, or how he pronounces things, or men's voices that are higher, etc. Not everyone likes Josh Groban's voice. While I think it is unreasonable to say he can't sing, some people just aren't into those types of voices. Some people don't like the sound of Adele's voice. I think she falls under the category of artists who can sing well, but there are still people that don't like to listen to her. 2. We are talking about Pop music, where Gaga and Nikki Minaj are stars. Pop music wants people who fit outside the box. BEPs, Katy Perry, Madonna (for years), Cee Lo, MJ, PINK, and Prince are pop artists who have in the past or are now pushing boundaries. Being unpredictable is the best thing you can be in Pop music! 3. Adam is a pop artist. He is singing pop songs. There really isn't anything that complex about that. The songs and his music are in line with what others are doing on different scales in the world of Pop. If Adam releases a good pop song, people will like it. 4. We will never know the extent that this has on certain outcomes, but in this country this is his biggest obstacle. IMO, his biggest problem isn't that he is some "rare, intricate, complex and fascinating bird"! Are you kidding? THAT is what Pop legends are made of! This isn't Country music- Adam should fit in with other Pop stars! Have you been watching the Pop world for the past 30 or so years? The crazier, the better! People don't want boring, they want something different- that gets their attention!

Remember what Adam said about getting the collective eyeroll? This is still happening with him for a number of reasons. The main one is that he's gay, another important one is that the FYE era had a very flamboyant gay who pushed a lot of buttons with the AMA's, his GNT concerts, and his music in general with FYE and Fever in particular. People in my family give him the collective eyeroll all the time and will not listen to his music. I've gotten to where I just don't mention him at all even though they know I follow him intensely. They just don't want to hear about it and when they do it's eyeroll time again. I hate to say it, but I wish he had started the first era off like he is with this one. I think it would have gone over better and gained him more fans. As it is, he has a loyal fan base that stuck with him through everything in the first era, but I believe the fans he gained during FYE era were mostly overseas. I just don't see him selling much here in America and that may be why they are concentrating on the overseas market this time around. They know radio is still eyerolling him along with all the haters here in America and that it will take making him big overseas first to get him in the door over here. I do believe that Adam will make it big in other ways also, especially with Queen. I see that gig as being the way Adam gets his name out there around the world in a big way and hopefully here in America too. Sorry that I'm rambling but also want to say that I will be so pissed if radio plays the heck out of Kris's new music while shunning Adam. I may just burst a blood vessel over that one, if it happens.
