Ppl on twitter are saying some station in LA called KBIG just spun BTIKM. IDK this station...??? KBIG is the #8 station in the LA Market and is the #1 HAC station in LA Metro. It is a Clear Channel Station. They manage the playlists in LA between the CC stations -- KOST (AC) #1 in the market, KIIS (CHR/Pop) #3, KBIG (HAC) #8 and KHHT (Rhythmic AC) #10. Well then     |

Thoughts on the album delay...
IF it is delayed, maybe he is waiting to tell us about it because he would like to announce it together with some good news? Like the confirmed collaboration, for instance? Or confirmed Queen appearance? If he announces it with some good news, it will control the spin cycle a little.

Q3 or anyone who knows things- with respect to airplay: I know that payola is not payola if it is an openly disclosed "deal" such as the one Interscope wrangled to have Madonna's new song played at the top of every hour on all Clear Channel stations. I know that a few other top tier artists like Rihanna have benefited from the same arrangement. I understand that Adam is not in Madonna's league (yet), but do we have any ideas about how Interscope secured such a "deal" with Clear Channel and how much money such a deal might involve? No direct money can be exchanged for airplay in the US. Sony, UMG and EMI have all paid multimillion dollar fines to the State of NY for using independent reps to funnel money to radio stations in exchange for airplay. There are some things that can be done -- like have artist perform at radio station concerts and covering the costs. The label pays expenses to promote the artist and their music. The radio station sells tickets and makes a lot of money. My guess based on no specific information on the Madonna song is that UMG put $2 million into it -- plus whatever they spent on the SuperBowl production and expenses. Here is a general estimate by NPR: theweek.com/article/index/216935/the-eye-popping-cost-of-a-hit-song-by-the-numbersBut they also got adds and airplay from almost every Top 40 station in Major US markets. Finally, a label or artist can buy airtime to broadcast their song but they must state it is an advertisement and it does not count as a spin for charts. |
