I also wanted to say really quickly that I wonder why ANYONE thinks that Adam wiill have an easier time with a different single? So far it seems like a lot of people whine and say that a different single like Cuckoo or Trespassing would be totally different and smash right away, etc etc, BUT....1) We haven;t even heard these songs yet so how do we even know if we would actually even like them 2.) Adam has never had an easy time on radio, and until he has at least one big mega smash I can't see him having an easier time.
I think we need to adjust our expectations and realize that even if he did drop an amazing utempo tomorrow, it may still be a slow grower. He may ALWAYS be one. Who knows.

If that's what the topic is gonna be here today then imma be somewhere else for a while.. Yeah, I'm with you. Thanks for your post Q3, I think you have a lot of interesting points, but think it would make a little more sense to evaluate after he does East Coast radio promo next week. Radio is always going to be a beyotch in the path and I will never get why a well-reviewed, very good song keeps getting thwarted other than no one is really hearing it. We've all seen how crap songs go nuts because we cannot escape them. And they continue to play the crap songs for whatever reason. It's a vicious circle. My HAC (biggest HAC in No. 2 radio market) tends to play very few new songs. They play the CHR hand-me-downs (after they've been played to death there) and older songs. I've only heard MKIA a handful of times since August; I hear Daughtry's song more (I think; I still get those post-grunge rocker songs mixed up). It's only because I know the title that I can recognize the song. I don't know. I still say let the video get released to VH-1 and let him do U.S. radio promo. ETA: I will also say that my HAC tends to play totally mediocre songs from people I've never, ever heard of too. I'm thinking, "Where did this person come from?" And I'll be happy to give props to good songs that come from total unknowns. I've loved many. But mediocre songs from total unknowns have my mystified. And I personally know at least 20 people who request Adam their diligent 3x weekly via text, Twitter, phone-ins and the media base list (or whatever we call that form) and yet .... nothing. Though the DJ was flailing about the song in December. It's just effed up. That's all I've got.

We are now 8 weeks after BTIKM was sent to radio, 3 weeks past the HAC Impact Date and 2 weeks past the Pop Impact Date and BTIKM is at best off to a slow start -- particularly on Pop Radio. Ya know, I'm using as my comparison point Lady Gaga's "Just Dance". That lead-off single for The Fame (or was it The Fame Monster at that point?) kinda meandered around for a really long time. Let me start off my saying I liked "Just Dance". But I didn't think it was cutting edge or anything, and I remember being highly unimpressed by the video. Really, to me, Gaga didn't take off until "Bad Romance" (I think I was one of the few who didn't like 'Poker Face"). [snort] And we all know how The Fame Monster wound up doing!

I agree with what you have said here Chunkey, and I also wonder about payola or whatever it is called these days. Clearly record companies cut loose with the big bucks for some singles and not for others. I don't know how these decisions get made but there's no way I believe PDs just think we all want to hear Ri's "We Found Love" literally twice every frickin' hour. If RCA doesn't cut loose with the do-re-mi, why WOULD it be any different for another single. Food for thought.

Ya know, I'm using as my comparison point Lady Gaga's "Let's Dance". That lead-off single for The Fame (or was it The Fame Monster at that point?) kinda meandered around for a really long time. Let me start off my saying I liked "Lets Dance". But I didn't think it was cutting edge or anything, and I remember being highly unimpressed by the video. It is JUST Dance and the album was The Fame. IMO she blew up with Poker Face. Couldnt escape that song.

If that's what the topic is gonna be here today then imma be somewhere else for a while.. I am not angsting at all -- in fact I have never angsted about Adam -- never. I have never wavered in my belief he will be/is becoming an important musician and influencer. I "know"* that RCA has to be planning to release another single. I just want them to do it sooner than later. And the situation is different now -- the video is out, the song has passed it's impact date. RCA has a ton of money tied up in this album and they will do what is need to get sales -- and that includes having a hit single. So -- my opinion is that RCA needs to ramp it up. And I would much rather post this publicly where they can read it. I am a huge fan of FYE (single) and think it deserved to be a hit -- but it was not the right lead single choice for Adam in 2009. IMO this is not the right single for Adam in 2012. So no angst -- And I will continue to work to request and promote BTIKM -- But I want a new upbeat, Adam co-written single. * ETA: I have no confirmation that there is a second single -- but it is something that I am hearing from everyone who I respect in the music business. The rumor is that it will not be until early March -- but my opinion is that should do it sooner than later. ***** So no need to angst -- just my opinion -- I want a new single in mid- to late Feb so it has time to move up the chart before the album release. Adam has never had a song rocket up the airplay charts -- so repeating the WWFM scenario is not a great idea for him. WWFM announced 11/18/09 WWFM on sale 11/20/09 FYE album released 11/23/09 JMHO YMMV and prob will. ETA: The example of "Just Dance" is often mentioned but that was a Club Hit when released -- the parallel for BTIKM would be to be an Adult Pop hit. And it is hanging in the mid-30's there. Also, the promotional power of a song is NOT about good or bad reviews, or personal taste. It is about what is played on the radio and reaching a mass audience. If the track only gets played when fans vote for it, in off-peak hours, and is not on pop radio drive time, it is not doing it's job.

[looks at previous post critically]
On a completely nit-picky editorial note, are album titles supposed to underlined or bolded? I'm assuming songs, like chapter titles, are supposed to be in quotes.
Sorry, working on a reference section right now, and these style guides are staring me in the face.
