Glad you joined us, itskarma! I don't have a problem with JHud doing the tribute, but I think I would have preferred a tribute featuring a variety of artists. That would make it about Whitney without having an "heir to the throne" vibe.

Go on and be sarcastic, but I'm telling you that if you only had one person doing a tribute tonight and it was a white, country singer- it would be seen as disrespectful to a large majority of the black community. You can believe otherwise, but I believe this would be the case. Wow, really? I never even considered the skin colour aspect. I also consider Dolly above any genre classification. She's iconic. Just thought that it would be a lovely tribute to Whitney, considering she wrote the words Whitney made famous.... If Jhud was asked by the family - OF COURSE she should do it. I hear Chaka Khan will be involved also.....that's cool. (love her). I never thought about skin color. So I guess JH sang at MJ's funeral because she's black and it would be offensive if it were any other skin color ? Oh well - you live and you learn. :-/

Re the makeup.. I think Adam uses fake lashes a lot. individual lashes or even lash extensions sometimes. Plus mascara, of course. He knows what he's doing-- his makeup always conveys exactly what he wants to convey.. he's very clever and a true artist, and uses his face as a canvas. YES! It is as creative and facinating as his clothes!

J-Hud loved and revered Whitney. She idolized her and was inspired by her. She has the voice and the power and the emotional range and vulnerability to do it justice... in spades. Whitney saw her sing her her most famous song and she loved it. I think she is a perfect choice. I agree and the bottom line, if Clive and/or Whitney's family came to you and asked you to do a tribute hours after your hero has died, you do not analyze the overall reaching social mores, you humbly and immediately say, "Yes, I would be honored; thank you so much for your faith in me to do her legacy justice." There is absolutely nothing else she could or should have said. People who loved Whitney made the request. Of course Jennifer is going to humbly accept. She had to. And like Adam paying homage to Freddie, I'm sure she will do it with class and reverence to her mentor. What would you do at the last moment? Her death needs to be acknowledged and a tribute paid literally overnight. It works. I'm just selfishly grateful that this is not Adam's big Grammy night.

IDK why everyone thinks Jhud is the "heir to the throne"?? I mean Clive may love her, and I don't really follow her so this is all new to me, but she hasn't had and maybe will never have the kid of career that Whitney has had. Jhud is immensely talented and an Oscar winner, and has a decent acting and music career going on, but she isn't a force in music like Whitney was. I don't even think she has had a hit single.album outside the r&b charts has she?
So I think all this tacky/heir apparent talk is kinda pointless because while she has her own career and is successful, I can't see her reaching the dizzying heights that Whitney reached. No one is going to usurp anyone here no matter if Clive adores her or not.
Basically Jhud=talented beautiful woman....but she is no Whitney and is absolutely no danger to her legacy at all.
It ain't that deep.
But srsly her weight watchers commercials tho.....you can rage about those all ya like. I am totes with ya on that point!! lololol
