J-Hud loved and revered Whitney. She idolized her and was inspired by her. She has the voice and the power and the emotional range and vulnerability to do it justice... in spades. Whitney saw her sing her her most famous song and she loved it. I think she is a perfect choice. Just like Adam is the perfect choice for Freddie. You can substitute Adam and Freddie's names in your paragraph. ;D I love JHudson, but I have absolutely no idea how she's going to stand on a stage and "sing Whitney" and actually hold it together. I'm sure JH is a complete emotional wreck about Whitney's death right now. I thought about this exact same thing! Jennifer has dealt with so much in the past couple of years- she is no stranger to death and tragedy. She has become a strong woman, because she has had to. I also thought Jordin Sparks would be a good choice if they were having several people involved in the tribute, but they just didn't have the time to get a big tribute together. Jordin just played Whitney's daughter in an upcoming movie and she has a lovely voice. However, Jordin is so young and this would probably be impossible for her to get through. I read that she is taking this hard. . Jennifer has a great voice but I imagine her version would be very loud and bombastic - like those annoying diet ads of hers.
Right, it is the version YOU love. You can have Dolly's version at your wedding, funeral or whatever. Whitney sang this song in her way with her big diva voice. Who would Whitney want to sing this song? Whose voice was Whitney a fan of? What type of singing did Whitney like? What person best represents Whitney? Who does her family want?

Whitney saw her sing her her most famous song and she loved it. I think she is a perfect choice. I agree and the bottom line, if Clive and/or Whitney's family came to you and asked you to do a tribute hours after your hero has died, you do not analyze the overall reaching social mores, you humbly and immediately say, "Yes, I would be honored; thank you so much for your faith in me to do her legacy justice." There is absolutely nothing else she could or should have said. People who loved Whitney made the request. Of course Jennifer is going to humbly accept. She had to. And like Adam paying homage to Freddie, I'm sure she will do it with class and reverence to her mentor. ETA: Regarding eyelash dye – I know it has been done safely for years and was thinking it's probably some plant-based formula, then it dawned on me as I was googling that I don't know WTH is in the mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow, etc. that I use every day either. I just trust that it's been tested and certified safe for use around the eyes. And so far, it's been okay. \ Yeah I agree about Jhud. I am not her biggest fan--although the girl can saaaang--and have no problem with her doing the tribute. My only eyeroll moment is the fact that she seems to be the go to gal to do tributes. It's a little weird imo but hey, if you get askes I guess you do them. About the eyelash thing--it may be perfectly safe but hey if someone is a little hesitant to put something near their eyes that could, theoretically, do any kind of damage to them (hey eyes are pretty important lol) then they have every right to be wary. To each their own. I know I personally wouldn't dye my eyelashes....it's just.....yeah. I don;t care how many people tell me how safe it is, there's always the chance you could be the one that has a reaction. It's a personal choice.

The discussion re JHUD - Whitney tribute is too close to "home" as it echoes Queen purists' arguments...
I see no reason why JHUD is any worse choice than anyone else - she has a great voice - I don't see why anything else would matter...

I wonder what gay guy they are going to have sing Adam's songs when they do a tribute to him for being awesome and a worldwide star. Guess a straight guy would be inappropriate, and heaven forbid it be Bruno Mars, he's not a redhead nor gay . Not a vote for Dolly, just making a point. Go on and be sarcastic, but I'm telling you that if you only had one person doing a tribute tonight and it was a white, country singer- it would be seen as disrespectful to a large majority of the black community. You can believe otherwise, but I believe this would be the case. Wow, really? I never even considered the skin colour aspect. I also consider Dolly above any genre classification. She's iconic. Just thought that it would be a lovely tribute to Whitney, considering she wrote the words Whitney made famous.... If Jhud was asked by the family - OF COURSE she should do it. I hear Chaka Khan will be involved also.....that's cool. (love her).

I like Dolly, but I just saw the latest movie she was in. Her voice is not what it used to be. Other than writing this song, what soes Dolly have to do with Whitney? Whitney and JHud knew each other and they are both black women who are diva type singers. From what I understand Jennifer and Whitnet were fans of one another. From an earlier article: "Houston actually presented Hudson with her first Grammy. Hudson said meeting her idol "almost overshadowed getting the Grammy." What does an older, white, country singer have to do with Whitney Houston? ??? I wonder what gay guy they are going to have sing Adam's songs when they do a tribute to him for being awesome and a worldwide star. Guess a straight guy would be inappropriate, and heaven forbid it be Bruno Mars, he's not a redhead nor gay . Not a vote for Dolly, just making a point. Haha, a very good point!!

She wrote the song and doesn't sound like someone trying to imitate Whitney. JMHO A tribute is for the deceased person, not the person who wrote the song. IWALY was Whitney's song. It is about who Whitney and her family would want. Who would Whitney select? Why does it matter who wrote the song? When has that ever been important in a tribute? It really isn't about who WE would want! I'm not a huge Jennifer Hudson fan, but I understand that this tribute isn't about ME. It doesn't matter who I would like to hear sing! www.bet.com/video/bethonors/2010/jennifer-hudson-whitney-houston-tribute-2010.htmlJennifer had already done IWALY honoring Whitney at the BET awards. Watch Whitney's reaction. It doesn't matter really. I expressed who I think would do a wonderful classy job, and you expressed your opinion. And I never said this tribute was about ME. :-/

arjanwrites Arjan Writes Great photo of @adamlambert on Red Carpet last night #musicwasbestwhen RT twitpic.com/8j25e6 That's the look! Totally focused, totally attentive on the speaker, as if nothing else is going on around them. It grabs them every time. We all have enough ego to love being the focused center of someone else's attention. Especially someone as striking looking as Adam. A friend of mine is a musician, a cute one, and from the first time I met him 21 yrs ago, that was his most impressive attribute. It doesn't matter if a 9 year old or a 90 year old is talking to him, they have his full attention, no matter that 19, 29, or 39 year olds are being pushy. And, like Adam, he's a hugger, which helps reinforce the idea that you are his focus.
