Taylor Swift (not into her music but I like her and understand why she is a big deal) moved well over 2.5M albums her first week. Mostly from sales instead of streaming. Impressive and very rare. Even better than Beyonce moving about 600K her first week. But I don't want to see the meltdown from Jay Z if she wins album of the year over Beyonce. It will NOT be pretty. HA. Have not heard Taylor's album but she has always done well even when she changed genres and moved away from country. BTW, I read that she has one rock like song on the album that is good so I'll be interested in checking that out, lol. Unlike many of the pop stars no longer in their twenties, she nor Beyonce (who also took on a different genre) seem to suffer from the "Peter Pan" complex. Pop divas like Madonna and JLo never moved into a growth or mature phase where they are taken seriously with their music. People don't crave anything substantial from them, but expect more of the same. But congrats to Taylor as she has held on to her fans, who grew up with her, while capturing an even younger fan base and their parents too.
Great those ladies are doing so well but looking forward to many diverse opportunities for Adam (music, judging, acting and maybe more QAL).

did TS finally move on from the "he done me wrong" songs she kept writing after every breakup?
Don't listen to her music, but I did watch a few fan videos of Red, White and Royal Blue that included TS music, and you can't even tell who's singing...it also sounds really manufactured.

I guess I need to just put on my big-girl pants and listen to some of Taylor's new stuff. No use having an opinion based on ignorance. The fans she had back in her country days are still with her and she's gained millions more. She looks very young for her age, always a plus. And her songs seem to speak to millions of fans. And acquaintance of mine, in her forties, is an avid, unapologetic Taylor fan. I know how it feels, cuz that's how I feel about Adam. She and Adam couldn't be more different.
Hope Adam gives us more info about his projects soon, before we burst.

I can't imagine how fans of artists like Ariana, who are still getting massive radio play and with high charting songs, must feel. Beyonce did not do so well on country radio (her song didn't move past the 30s) but her country album was massive (probably more of her regular fans bought it). Will be interesting to see where they land come award season. But the ladies are pretty much in control so my guess is those two will get most of the nominations and awards. |
