Can we buy BTIKM video tomorrow on ITUNES??? Washington State Right to marry signed by governor into law. New Jersey Senate legalizes same sex marriage Yay New Jersey! I have to admit I somehow missed the Mayor Cory Booker remarks until Cam retweeted but wow. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4Z7tl7Vy8U&feature=player_embeddedGolly, he tells it like it is! Thanks for the link, Mika. Cory Booker is a tremendous guy. I've actually met him, as he was friendly with my brother in college--they used to play ball together. He's very charming--but damn, he can lay down the law if he has to! Impressive dude. Well done NJ! OT (sorry), but for anyone interested in Booker, I recommend you rent "Street Fight," a fascinating documentary about his effort to unseat mayoral incumbent Sharpe James in Newark in 2002. It was a tough, tough political fight, and Booker was a really remarkable candidate. For example, dude is an Ivy Leaguer from a privileged background, but for almost a decade Booker lived in one of the worst public housing projects in Newark, one of the roughest, most destitute cities in the country, in order to get a better grip on what problems the citizens of Newark faced. He's a bad-ass.

Yay for Washington! One state at a time ... Re: NJ, it's great news, but unfortunately Gov. Christie, who is a Republican, has said he will veto the bill. He wants to put a gay marriage referendum on the ballot and let voters decide. NJ currently has civil unions for gay couples; Christie says that he is opposed to gay marriage and he believes civil unions are sufficient to protect the rights of gay couples. If you want more info: www.cbsnews.com/8301-501363_162-57376671/nj-senate-oks-gay-marriage-bill-in-milestone-vote/Tinafea was saying the opposition will do the same thing in Washington, but I'm wondering if there will be any point. Just as what Cory Booker says here (and yaaay, I have adored him since I saw him on "Real Time" about two years ago). A very intelligent, well-spoken man. The "putting on the ballot" thing is what the entire Prop 8 case is about in California and it is heading toward the Supreme Court as we speak. Booker details it very clearly here – the majority cannot deny civil rights to a minority. End of story. So all the ballot referendums in the world are going to end up in the same place as California is now. Putting human rights to a popular vote is totally contrary to the protections set forth in the 14th amendment. If states keep attempting it, they're going to end up in the same situation as California is now and waste everyone's time and money. I will donate to charity:water tomorrow (wanted to get a little closer to pay day) and also 1n10! I will tweet out reminder again tomorrow – I did yesterday. Good luck to everyone trying to win M&G tickets!! Happy birthday, Atop, ozzie and Sunflower!!
