It is so frustrating for me to see BTIKM at 996 on iTunes and about to drop out of the top 1000 again. Come on little song, you can do it! Maybe it can, and maybe it can't but the fate of this album does not rest on the fate of this track's position right now. And looking at songs on getting similar pop airplay, it is not unusual for it to be selling at a low rate -- the tracks right above it on Pop Airplay with iTunes sales position. RCA is doing a pretty good job overall and there is not a big promotional gap on BTIKM. IMO this NY-Phila promo trip will determine the fate of BTIKM. If Z100 comes on board and really supports the track, it will be great. If they add it and just play it a bit in off-peak audience hours, we'll see if RCA makes a move or not. The suitability of BTIKM for US Pop Radio is a matter of opinion right now. But in 2 weeks, we will know what the PDs decided to do. Finally, yes, there are promo deals but radio stations will not do a deal that will hurt their audience numbers. Bad ratings mean that the PD and GM need to start looking for a new job. So no sense looking at a deal made to follow-up a Grammy performance. Like the Ryan Seacrest-Katy Perry deal. That is about media synergy and ratings. His audience loves Katy and she had a string of #1 hit singles. |

If BTIKM can make top 20 by the end of the month (or even early March) that will be great! Top 20 is one of those milestones that certain radio stations look at when making decisions about adds and spins. Top 20 on Pop yes, Top 20 on HAC is not too important for Pop PDs. For HAC cross-over, it needs to get to Top 10 on HAC. NOTE: Some of the Hits Stations, like the KISS format stations look at Top 20 in total airplay. |
