So great to see Adam with this platform to recognized the achievements of LGBT artists in the UK. But by leading the documentary, it also recognizes and highlights his own status and achievements. Wonderful!

I agree that I do not think Adam of means to offend, however, I have always thought he was emotionally, mature, and intelligent enough to recognize that term is offensive to many, if not most women. I totally approve and get the whole notion of taking back specific language that is offensive by means of using it For yourself.
So… The black community has taken back [and rightly, so] the term Ni&#$er, just as the gay community has taken back terms like Fa$#ot, queer and Madame. They have done this by using them with humor, and turning them into compliments or terms of endearment within their community. But we outside of that community can no more use the worst of those terms, such as capital, N or capital F… Because they are offensive from outside the community. If we were to use them amongst ourselves as non-gays, or non-blacks, we would be guilty of at best appropriation.
The term Cunt has never been used as anything other than demeaning and insulting, and only towards women. Consequently, anyone outside of the female community does not have the right to use that term and then claim that they don’t mean them as an insult. it has never been used as anything but insulting. to a certain point, I don’t much care what they do in the privacy of their own homes, and I understand that Adam has friends that post stuff that he would not have done. But this is a song that he is releasing to the public, not just an underground song to gay bars, and then the picture he has released along with it is the only purposefully ugly picture I have ever seen Adam take. That picture is not ugly by mistake. This does not mean I quit being a fan or that I don’t care about him. But if he does this a few times, and I find myself being more offended than appreciated I probably will slowly pay less attention and I certainly won’t buy more like this.
Please don’t purposefully misquote me or “misunderstand” me… I understand and accept that many may completely disagree with me and that’s fine, and I understand, your mileage may vary.

I haven't said much about the "Afters" era, because I really don't know what to say. I have so many mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, the opportunity to release an EP of music geared specifically to a subset of his community is clearly something that is bringing him great joy and a sense of liberation. In that sense, I'm very happy for him. But for myself? Not so much. I'm lukewarm at best about the songs I've heard, and while Adam has looked awesome in all his personal appearances, I have seriously disliked virtually all the album art associated with the project. I don't know if I'm going to buy the EP or not, but I refuse to feel guilty if I don't. Adam has made it clear he created "Afters" for "his" people - and for himself - and doesn't care if others appreciate it. Fair enough, but it works both ways. Before anyone says it, I'm aware there are fans outside of his community who are enjoying the "Afters" songs, and that's great. But there are many who do not and will not.
Adam is in a strange and somewhat uncomfortable position, in that his fandom, by and large, does not resemble himself in any way, shape or form. Many other artists have fandoms who are similar to them in a demographic sense; much of Adam's fandom is not. He is releasing an EP he knows will not appeal to a significant portion of his fanbase. I can handle an EP that doesn't speak to me, but if this signals a new, sustained direction in his solo career, I really don't know how long I can hang in there. I hope he cares enough about the fans who have been there for him and supported him all this time to not stay in this very "niche" lane for the long term. Telling everyone they're "invited to the party" when it's a party they have no interest in attending doesn't help.

I very much appreciate the discussion here. I for myself have come to the conclusion that Adam can do whatever he wants, however I did not sign a contract 15 years ago to support him unconditionally. If I don’t like the EP and the visuals that come with it I won’t buy/support it. It is not geared toward me anyways. I agree that it goes both ways. His looks on the red carpets and on magazine covers are just not enough to keep my fan heart enthusiastic.

I'm just adopting a wait-and-see attitude. For me it's more about the style of music than anything else (although I hate the word cvnty). Can't really understand the lyrics of the songs anyway. If dance and EDM is what he's going to do from now on, I'll just be a bystander lol. I'll still follow him, but I doubt I'll be buying anything. But I'm hoping he's just putting out the EP for Pride month and getting it out of his system. Not sure how well he could tour on an entire album of Lube and Cvnty songs anyway and I know he knows it's all about the business, and not just the creative side.
Never a dull moment with this man lol.

Well said mszue, cleopatra, sizzling63. I too appreciate the discussion here. I am also offended by the use of the "C" word, even if he didn't intend to offend us. I also have mixed feelings about "Afters", and agree with the opinions of mszue, cleopatra, sizzling63 and lurleene. I also acknowledge that others may not share these opinions. I don't plan to purchase "Afters", and I also won't feel guilty about it. As we well know, Adam will do what he wants to do, but I hope that he doesn't alienate many in his loyal fanbase by continuing to record this type of music. Adam is an intelligent man, and I'm sure he understands that many in his fandom are not in his demographic. I will continue to support him, as I have for all these many years, through thick and thin. He does take us on a rollercoaster ride sometimes, doesn't he? But it is those times when he astounds us over and over again that keeps me yearning for more. And I will always treasure "THE VOICE". And by the way, I also loved seeing "Chestbert". He looked stunning!

I love a well-reasoned and point well made. Thank you for nailing my discomfort so eloquently. Building on what I said yesterday, it feels 'cheap' - something I've never once thought of Adam. I acknowledge I'm not in his head or around his life as anything other than a distant observer. And suspect he'd be the first to say 'if it's not your jam, that's fine' Perhaps he should gamify the title and allow fans to change it to something else once we hear the song.
