I said yesterday that Billie Eilish's song "Lunch" (that someone said was very sexual but I haven't listened to it) was charting on the itunes chart for alternative. And her new album went #1 on the rock and alt charts for Billboard. She is neither a rock chick nor a rock star but I will not be surprised if she is nominated and wins a Rock Grammy. Rock doesn't have the competition that pop has. But I swear, either Billie is brilliant or her team and label are. I'm not in awe of her talent or her singing but for someone so young, she has made some smart choices with her career. 2 Oscars, several Grammy awards and other awards in pop/rock/alt for singing tho she mumbles. And I know you can't accomplish all that without a major label behind you. However, it is amazing that with her limited vocal talent, she has so much cred and will one day be viewed as one of the great music artists of her time. She may not be better that others but she is certainly more strategic than many. No wasted or missed opportunities. Sometimes it is hard to understand why some are rewarded with so many award opportunities while others are not. But it is impressive to see someone who is serious about their music and knowing when to change things up to their advantage. And knowing when and how to avoid Pop where Taylor is dominating is a plus too. HA. I wish that when Adam was with a major label, someone would have been wise enough to give him a chance for radio play in other genres and a chance at winning some awards. Imo, he probably could have won a Grammy or two in Rock if he hadn't been limited to Pop for all those earlier years (when he was with a major label and on the radio). But those radio days have long passed so he might as well do the dance/EDM music that makes him happy. And I hope this song breaks the top 100 in all genres. But he is really enjoying himself so good for him. Guess that is why she didn't come out as "bi" until last year. She already had her followoing. I have to say I do enjoy some of her music, but not all. I guess I shouldn't, but I do resent some major artists come out after they have their awards and following. Who would have thought 7 years ago that Demi Lovato was LGBTQ. They didn't live through the "cr@p" that people like Adam did, yet they are reaping all of the rewards. And it is different for women anyway. Many LGBT women had hits and Grammy awards and many in Rock. Also, I don't know about Billie but I have never even heard of a same sex relationship that Demi or even Gaga were involved in. I guess they kept them out of the public eye and maybe that was by design. No one should be required to flaunt their personal relationships to prove anything. Tho we always heard about their boyfriends. But all of them, Sam, LNX, Billie, Frank Ocean, Demi, Miley, Gaga, Janelle, Queen Latifah had hits before they came out. While Adam was beat up, shut out and had to answer for his sexuality ad nauseam at the beginning of his career. His music and talent were secondary and some acted as if he had two heads or they didn't understand what gay was. Or his sexuality or makeup were the only things interesting about him. Then for some, he was too gay and for others in his community not gay enough, while they worshiped non gay female acts. Madonna, Beyonce, Xtina and other divas could walk on water and still do. Even earlier stars like Freddie, Elton, Bowie, Ricky Martin and George Michael were stars first but I understand that coming out was harder then. And people come out when they are ready but I am so happy for Adam that he did not carry the shame of hiding who he was. However, I wish the industry had rewarded him for his bravery, with radio play, awards and hits, once they gave them to everyone else with great fanfare. He had big talent so it should not have been so hard. So I'm with you with feeling resentment and disappointment.

Talent often goes to waste unnoticed while marginal or no-talents go home with armloads of awards. Adam feels this more than anybody. I just don't understand why a strong label doesn't step up and help him. So much of his music has broad appeal. It's as good as anybody's out there. He's got the talent. And at this point, it can't be the gay thing. So I'm at a loss to understand the real reason why he can't get label support and some decent radio play. Guess i just don't gest it.
