I am feeling sentimental and even a bit sad to see footage of Brian May talk so highly and proudly of Adam. That was 5 years ago!! ("May's revelations come in an interview with Sammy Hagar conducted in late 2019 and uploaded to the YouTube channel of AXS TV this week").
I have been to QAL concerts more often than I can easily count on two hands and I can't believe that it was less than one year ago since I last saw them twice in San Francisco last fall. It was phenomenal - Adam looked good, he sounded great, and he owned his role as their seasoned frontman with charm, confidence, and gratitude. Both nights were absolutely fantastic and in a way I did feel "validated" as a fan to see him yet again so successful on such a big stage. Only a few months later my heart literally dropped when Adam expressed in interviews preluding to "Afters" that he doesn't listen to classic rock and that pretty much everything up to this newest chapter was performative and not authentic. It didn't feel right, though I do understand that with Queen he sings someone else's music and that with his own work he is constantly evolving and the latest may always be the "most authentic". But why make such an insensitive statement, especially not too long after another highly successful tour with QAL? The way this direction change came about felt harsh and even slightly unappreciative to me. I immediately thought how Brian and Roger may react in addition to myself feeling a bit let down after all the support up to then. Loved him with Queen but I still preferred his solo chapters and the countless solo concerts I attended.
I too am feeling a level of defiance in Adam lately, similar to that AMAs performance back then, and I hope that he won't forget the many opportunities he has enjoyed in his career, besides feeling stifled in his artistic vision at times. I am not in his shoes (literally and thankfully so lol) but I tend to reflect a bit and make comparisons with other gay men in different professions and jobs, who have to make adjustments in their "gayness" based on professional and social settings while still out to everybody.

I am not in his shoes (literally and thankfully so lol) but I tend to reflect a bit and make comparisons with other gay men in different professions and jobs, who have to make adjustments in their "gayness" based on professional and social settings while still out to everybody. I was surprised about Adam‘s words in that interview as well, and felt kind of let down. But after all these years I decided to mostly ignore that, simply because it doesn’t fit with what he has always said in the past and what I experienced at these concerts. And after all, it’s simply true, that Adam doesn’t listen to classic rock. He doesn’t know Queen‘s back catalogue that well and in that last radio game, when he had to recognize Queen songs by single instruments, he didn’t even recognize BoRhap, the guitar solo of We Will Rock You or the drums and synth from Radio GaGa. I think we fans, who saw it, felt so embarrassed, that nobody dared to talk about it. 🤪 As for the interview you mentioned: Was it a written interview or a video? I don’t remember. If it was written down, his words could also be slightly out of context or shortened. But in the end, it’s simply the truth. If Adam really liked classic rock music he would have made and make a different kind of music. And he would attend rock concerts, something I‘ve never seen or heard of. AND he and Brian or Roger might really (have) work(ed) on music together, in whatever form. But as it is, Adam solo has different musical interests than Brian and/or Roger.
