I don't really mean this but in light of the awesome Queen news imma say it anyway: Fuck US Radio. I can't say that. I think radio play is very important for Adam. I think radio plays a large part in an artist being nominated and receiving awards to say nothing of sales. Radio play puts an artist in front of those who might never see or hear of him otherwise. Also helps put butts in the concert seats. I want massive radio play for Adam this Trespassing era, or at least WWFM numbers. 8-)

Radioplay is important because it is what Adam wants and it is still the best way to sell songs and albums. But, I am beginning to wonder if rihannsu is right that he may need to blow-up overseas first.
I don't think that BTIKM is a "bad" song, but radio doesn't seem to like it. The 2nd single will be telling. It it blows up, then maybe it is the song. If not, then something else is going on. Maybe "Trespassing" is more appropriate than we knew.

As far as hitting it big internationally - it doesn't seem to be happening with BTIKM YET. (emphasis on "yet") Surprisingly he's not setting Canada or Aus. on fire so far this era & the UK is a big question mark at this point. I hope the Queen gig will help him there. Where's BTIKM charting - Hungary, Finland, South Africa...anywhere else? I'm talking strictly about radio & sales. I realize he is known around the world & is frequently referred to as a global superstar. That's all good, but apparently he needs radio to be the pop star he wants to be.
Here's a question I've had for awhile: My understanding is that many young people don't even listen to radio anymore. I don't know anyone who does (except a few Sirius listeners). So how can radio still make or break an artist?
Disclaimer - I am not angsting....just want to understand the entire situation better than I do.
ETA: His NE radio tour was with DJs not PDs. He always makes a great impression but no matter how much they liked him they don't have the power to add or even play BTIKM do they?

I also don't believe the strategy is to break this song or Adam internationally first. BTIKM isn't doing well in Canada or Europe either. RCA doesn't have to take the "Gaga approach" to Adam and his music here. Adam and his music have already been accepted here in the US, he just needs a good single that listeners want to hear and respond to by buying it. The problems with BTIKM have to do with the song itself and also RCAs roll-out. The problem isn't homophobia or the US radio stations. For the past week, the signs have pointed to RCA pulling their support for this single and moving on to the next one. It is for the best. There is no reason to invest any more time and money in a song that was going to be a moderate HAC hit, at best. Come back in a few weeks with a song that is more geared towards pop radio and put all the money and time into it! That's not true. Statistics came out that showed just the opposite. Radio is still very important as far as overall sales numbers for singles.

Time for a new song. No angst, but the lack of excitement over BTIKM in Canada, Aus, New Zealand is telling. US radio doesn't seem interested. And BTIKM just isn't going to fit UK radio. Honestly, it feels like RCA has pulled the plug or Z100 would be at least test spinning.
It's time for RCA to stop playing it so safe. They need to look bigger, even if there is some risk.
RCA should get 3 songs ready and take them directly to some big market PDs. Find out what they actually like, and find out what they will play. Is this so hard? And then they need to actually WORK radio. They did for WWFM, they can get it done for something else.

My Top 40 station (B104) has BTIKM #27 on their playlist. It had been #44, then #40 - now #27. Not much but it is (albeit slowly) moving up.

I agree, first RCA management changed, then they seemed in flux, BTIKM was pushed back. when it started to take off there was no publicity. Now when it is old hat there is mucho publicity. So now RCA seems to be doing the same thing with Trespassing, pushing it back, while there is all the PR and then when it finally comes out ,it will be old hat. Timing seems to be off everywhere.Sometimes I feel like Adam is doing all the work himself, where are his new Katy Perry people, what's the matter with RCA???????BTIKM was just getting started on VH1 and then off.. The whole process doesn't make sense to me. It's like every time the song starts to stand up ,it's knocked down. You would think with all this hoopla over Queen and Adam, this would be the time to get' Trespassing' out there. Back to my corner.......

That is very cool about your station, JazzRocks! But that's also the weird thing with Adam's songs ( and maybe it happens with other artists, too, I just don't know.) There are some stations spinning the single several times a day, some are not spinning at all, some are playing it only in fan based countdowns. What is the deal? And this pattern of inconsistency could play out for months. I just don't get it.
