Can someone post the Radio Sophie link here for the new thread? I am using my smart phone and can't do it. I am positive Ryan Starr does not have an international following and if we can get some overnight votes in, I am sure we can smack him down. I was going to ignore this poll until he made that tweet about the poll radiosophie.radio.com/2012/02/21/sophies-challenge-ryan-star-vs-adam-lambert/Right now: Ryan Star 68.4% Adam Lambert 31.6% Adam's gone down.. :( Ryan Star 69.53% Adam Lambert 30.47%

Well, here is my true story for you.
I sent my favorite acoustic version of Adam singing BTIKM, tender and vulnerable, to my 21 year old son, a senior at NYU in the Tisch school. He is very snooty, likes indie music, and has not been an Adam fan.
This son has just had a crisis in his 3 year relationship with his g/f that seems to have resolved and ended up bringing them closer together, so I thought he might relate to the lyrics and sentiments Adam sings and interprets so well.
Tonight I just got back an email. It really surprised me. It just said, "pretty good man"
That is huge and from a very hipster type of 21 year old.
When Adam sings live, he connects. As Brian May says, he is a "great interpreter" of songs and their emotions.
I just want him seen and heard. I will vote and request and continue doing everything I can to encourage that to happen.

Beautiful story lynne ..thank you for sharing, Adam's voice and emotional connection to a song is so inspiring. Like you I just want him to be seen and heard, and will continue doing everything I can do to encourage that .... I think of my contribution as drop by drop into a big pond, every little bit helps !

Is anyone familiar with the children's story about the Rainbow Fish? It is a very popular allegory about not thinking you are better than everyone else, but sharing your attributes with others in order for them to accept you and be your friend. A very good lesson for kids. However, something about the story always bothered me. See, the Rainbow Fish WAS the most beautiful fish in the ocean, with gorgeous jewel-toned scales. All the other fish wanted his scales. In order to be accepted by them, the Rainbow Fish gives each of the other fish a beautiful scale, until he only has one left--- the same amount as all the other fish. Then, they all play happily together. It seems to me that the story is not saying you need to share yourself with others as much as it is saying you must strip yourself of your individuality and beauty in order to "fit in." You must make everyone equal - even tho' it requires you to painfully extract the very thing that makes you the special person you are. Why am I writing about the Rainbow Fish on Adamtopia? Because it seems to me that there are those out there who do not like Adam, will not play with Adam (or play his songs) BECAUSE Adam is uniquely himself, uniquely beautiful. In order to get his songs played on the radio he has to strip himself of those unique qualities in order to sound like everything else on the radio. I would much rather Adam stay true to himself and make his kind of music his way, even if it means he does not become a mega-star with songs playing every hour and soaring up to the top of the charts. I would much prefer that Adam gets the critical acclaim and recognition and has healthy sales and a reasonable profit. I'm not saying it is an "either/or" situation. There is always the possibility that his unique voice and musicianship will catch on and rage thru the pop music world like wild-fire. But, if it doesn't, I never want him to compromise his voice, his style, his musicianship in order to look/sound like every other fish in the sea. IMHO. YMMV

RL has been kicking my ass and I haven't been around much but wanted to weigh in on the discussion about BTIKM.
Pretty much every pop hit of the last 20 years or so uses the same 4 (I think) basic chord structure. There is a guy who has deconstructed it and actually teaches people how to use the "formula" and it is a formula. There is also the Axis of Awesome who show how 4 chords live behind our favourite popular songs:
When it comes to pop music complexity doesn't play. Even Adele's music as "different" sounding as the delivery is uses pretty simple melodies.
Simple BTIKM is not. Actually here is where Adam's extraordinary gift is a drawback, because he can sing the scales (so to speak) writers who have had previous hits tend to abandon their "simple" formulas and get tricky with it... great if you appreciate your music with a bit more substance, not so good if you want a top 10 radio hit - especially right now when the bar is a low as I have ever heard it.
My 2 cents, not worth much but there you have it.
