Srly?? We're doing The Rainbow Fish discussions today?? Gah - what a horrible book. I've been given multiple copies of it too over the last couple years (yeah - koshka I own it - just keep throwing it in the basement, there's a lot of better stories out there on how not to be a jerk). The only twisted morals children's book I hate more is Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree, which in my mind is purely about enabling selfishness. There the tree gives and gives and gives to a boy who takes and takes and takes until there is nothing left but a stump. Even as a child I thought it was one of the most pathetic parables ever. All I know is that Adam better not be "The Giving Tree" b/c I really want him to get some payback for all the work he's putting in. Noble suffering for its own sake is severely overrated. : LOL, Hoppers. I was raising children in the 80s AND the 90s as well as hanging out in preschool libraries reading books to kids through the late 90s, but somehow I missed being aware of this book -- although the cover is familiar. And I always found The Giving Tree to be disturbing, although Shel Silverstein is frequently (and intentionally) a little disturbing. This is a little OT, but the conversation about the Rainbow Fish reminds me of one of MY favorite children's books, Tico and the Golden Wings (Leo Lionni). The story has some similarities to the Rainbow Fish, but some big differences in message. Although parts of "Tico" have always made me question some of the implications, it is a beautifully written book with a (mostly) positive, lovely message. Anyone else here a fan of Tico?? If I HAD to name my favorite preschool book, I think this would be it. I love the way the words sound. The story, fwiw, is about a little bird named Tico who is born without wings. He is unable to fly with his friends but they love him anyway. One night the 'wishing bird' visits him in a dream, and he wishes for wings so that he can soar with his friends. In the morning, he realizes that he has been given beautiful golden wings. He is excited to show his friends but they shun him, saying that now he thinks he is better than they are (all their wings are black). He flies off by himself, and sees a father crying because he cannot afford medicine for his ill child. Tico gives him one of his golden feathers and a black one appears in its place. As he continues his flight he sees other people in need, and one by one he gives his golden feathers away so that his wings are now completely black. He flies back to his friends hoping that they will accept him, and they do. They say "now you are just like us!" But Tico knows better. He thinks, "We are all different. Each with our own memories and our own invisible golden dreams". That last sentence always makes me choke up (not sure I quoted it perfectly, but that's close). I almost don't care about what the rest of the book may or may not be implying! But I think it's vastly better than the Rainbow Fish, in spite of the similarities. I'm sure there's an Adam connection in there somewhere, even if I'm unable to articulate it!

BTIKM did NOT make the countdown today at 5 pm BUT They just played it at 5:45 set.. HELLO..... PRIME TIME right after Stronger. DO you think maybe this song isn't dead yet? IF you're talking about the Mix 102.9 countdown, it's because they dropped BTIKM from their list and put in WWFM instead. : Great that it got played during drive time tho!! ;D

I'm just going to bring this over from RequestAdam's post of a few minutes ago: " WWFS in New York City, WRQX in Washington DC (listed as District of Columbia on lists), and WWWM in Toledo (OH) are among the HAC stations that have started spinning Adam’s BTIKM in the last 24 hours. WWFS is the first station in NYC to spin BTIKM outside of a nationally syndicated spin! KBIG in Los Angeles, KJMY in Salt Lake City and WINK in Fort Myers (FL) are among new spinners of the past week-plus. ***If you live in one of these areas, it’s especially important to request BTIKM NOW!***" requestadamlambert.com/2012/02/22/new-stations-playing-to-do-lists/heh heh heh I like the sound of that! I think I've read some recent posts that seem to back up the anticipatory celebration of your *heh heh heh*. Are things starting to pick up with BTIKM? Maybe the Queen press is helping? (i know nothing)

LOL. I thought only people who HAD to read mind-numbing academic ramblings ever did so willingly, but I'm happy to share the joy. I've started a list of who wants to see this and I'll get back to you when I have it. Hi guys! I'd love to read this, please? Cookie, please add me to this list. Thanks! Rabbitrabbit; I'd suggest you accept the invitiation to the focus group. You are a REAL example of their listeners and therefore valid to participate. Go for it! NoAngel & Rabbitrabbit; thank you both for your insights; loved your posts on radio play and fandom... ITA. I vote, request, play the game as much as I can; it's needed at the moment. It will still take some time for BTIKM to peak; we have to remember that we may have been waiting for this era to start for ages, but the general public is just barely aware that Adam has new music. Despite the fact that Adam is one of the greatest singers out there, he's still a newcomer in the music industry and the AI-stigma is doing him no favors. Also, let's not forget that the original planned impact date of the single was Jan 30 and the promo has started, what, 2 weeks ago? The start of the campaign was not perfect due to the 'BFM-clearance' in December, but it was neccessary at the time. Be patient, at least for another 4-5 weeks. Then we can expect RCA to move on to a new single, if needed. Sonisphere & Queen are just the kind of 'extra' that is needed at the moment, to raise the awareness and get the spins going. But, as a fan, I feel that I need to support Adam and will do whatever I can to help. YMMV. Congratulations to everyone travelling to Knebworth; you are so lucky. How I wish, I could join you, but I have to pass... Fandoms collide; seeing Adam to sing Queen songs live... It may be one of the last shows Bri and Roger ever play... Y'all realize that you are thus becoming a part of Rock and Roll history!

OT but I have to ask:
Went to buy hair spray today -- haven't in years (growing bangs out) -- it's like $25 to $35 a can!!! What has happened out there in RL while I was busy scrolling here??? No wonder Adam is doing all these festivals and such -- maintenance!

I loved the song Time for Miracles. It should have been a hit. The video: Adam looked like a reject from a tanning salon. I don't know who did his make-up, but he could have looked better. The song, I still adore, and I still play it for myself occasionally. His voice was incredible on the recording. Yeah, less makeup, more dirt! Love dirty-faced Adam! I adore this cheesy video! And LOOOOOVE his voice on the song.

Noble suffering for its own sake is severely overrated. : OK, This made me laugh and I have to share this review page with you. These are people's responses to and ratings of The Giving Tree. Sava Hecht "Co-dependent tree needs to set some fucking boundaries." David " I'd hazard a guess that Bernie Madoff read this book, and look how he turned out. In fact there's a whole generation of bwankers who took it as their bible. Thanks a bunch, Shelly boy. " Morgan "...I keep expecting a missing page to show up where he pisses all over the tree stump at the end. " Carol "...This book reeks of the patriarchy. Keep it away from your kids--especially your daughters." Siobhan "I don't think I have ever read a book that has pissed me off more then the giving tree." Bird Brian "This book is a piece of stinking propaganda feces glorifying the perverse role of the "adoring slave"- a role being foisted on the middle class by Elites, who expect us to grovel and thank them for keeping the wheels turning on this putrifying and grossly unjust system, as we bail out their "too big to fail" banks, brokerage houses and insurance firms. Taxpayers play the role of the Tree, as Goldman Sachs and AIG executives- playing the Boy- award themselves record-level bonuses, and then come back the next year asking for yet more "distressed asset assistance". And what do we do? We give it to them, and thank them for all their good work! ... 'Tree' is the middle class, the 'Boy' is the small handful of sadistic fuckers who run our system, and The Giving Tree is the repulsive parable of the sick age we live in." www.goodreads.com/book/show/370493.The_Giving_Tree
