I listened to the metal guys and thought they were remarkably NOT contemptuous of Adam. I was expecting much worse. It seems that their main complaint was that Queen is not a heavy metal band, especially not so in their later work. I didn't think they were questioning Adam Lambert singing with Queen as much as Queen headlining at Sonisphere. One did say the stuff he heard of Adam singing Queen was "fucking amazing." The other was not derogatory about Adam, just not ready to drink the kool-aid until he heard whether he could sing the songs, and whether they were the right songs for the venue.
We've been to this rodeo before. Lots of questioning of Adam appearing in Russia at the Maxidrom. Fear that these tough, hard rockers would hate him and even attack him. Yet, he got a great reception and got a begrudging nod of "not bad. Actually, sounded good." The crowd listened and became bigger and more attentive as Adam performed.
The crowd at Sonisphere will include quite a number of die-hard Adam fans if this forum is any indication. We have 800 members, but generally only 200-300 participate regularly, yet we have over 50 from multiple countries making the trek to see this event. There will also be many Queen fans who are just as eager to see Queen live in a festival setting after so many years --- and who knows, maybe for the last time. Then, you will have the skeptics who will not be openly hostile. They will attend because it is an important event, and, once they start to listen and watch, many will be convinced.
I think this will be an awesome event.

Those metal guys on that podcast are complete jackwagons LOL.... I really hate music snobs. I was loling at their excited girly reactions to KISS.... those are the guys who lip synced and I'm pretty sure didn't even play their instruments live on the AI8 finale (check out Paul Stanley when he falls forward while supposedly ripping on the guitar LOL). I also remember Adam's quip about Gene's "Live guitar playing" on the idoltary interview. irony is them wetting themselves over The Darkness while Justin Hawkins is wetting himself over hearing Adam sing with Queen. LOL. Too true! And I'm guessing that Adam is the only one performing at Sonisphere who has already worked with Queen, KISS and Justin Hawkins. Pretty impressive for a guy who doesn't have enough "rock cred". ;D That's a good way to look at it! |

LOL I am listening to the podcast...lmao metal ppl are even dorkier than glamberts. lolzz. The one who said Adam will be good if he just sings the songs and basically keeps his trap shut made me lol. What do you expect him to do? lolzz IDK tho listening to these ppl talk makes me feel like WTF am I doing...this is sooo not my kind of scene to go to...el oh el. I also have to laugh at them loving the SUPER METAL KISS but Queen's songs aren't rock enough. Yeah because BETH is a super metal jam Lol I know nothing about Metal, but I wouldn't want to pass up the opportunity to post this: |

Agree with Cassie. Listening to the Podcast now. Have a huge smile on my face. These guys are amusing me enormously. And they are pretty much spot on. Their concern is the setlist Queen will play. Early Queen music, which was rock, not the pop/disco they did in later years, is what will go over well at this type of concert. Queen needs to pick their songs wisely or they may get pissed on. But their concern really is not Adam at all.
And as far as KISS, they have a good point as well. Like it or not, many rock bands grew up standing in front of the mirror playing air guitar while singing "I want to rock and roll all night, and party every day!". Gene Simmon's dickieness aside, their early music was the baby food many rockers were fed as kids.
When I was 12 I went to my first concert. It was KISS. They were my first, second and fourth concerts. Queen was my third. This was all mid-70's. KISS was a great, safe transition for me into more "adult" rock. I went from the soft rock/pop of Elton John to KISS and Queen and then finally into bands like Zeppelin. I really can't listen to any of those bands now. But they filled my early years with some fun rock 'n roll.
