From Webster's Unabridged, "flamboyant": Main Entry: 1flam·boy·ant Pronunciation Guide Pronunciation: (primarystress)doublehyphen|bodoti(y)schwant Function: adjective Etymology: French, literally, flaming, present participle of flamboyer to flame, blaze, from Old French flamboier, from flambe flame 1 often capitalized, of architecture : characterized by waving curves suggesting flames <the flamboyant tracery of windows in the later French Gothic style>; broadly : belonging to the florid French Gothic school of architecture 2 a : resembling a flame in form or color b : FLORID, ORNATE; also : RESPLENDENT 3 : given to show or ostentation : SHOWY, UNRESTRAINED <flamboyant advertising> I like the derivation from flaming too. May Adam be showy, unrestrained, and flaming in all senses of the word from this day forward forever more.

From the comments of this YT "I thought I was going to hate it. I didn't. I'm kinda glad they chose someone so flamboyant, 'cause that was Freddie." ETA: had to embed, this is just so great Oh.. I forgot to answer the question (yesterday or the day before yesterday?) re where Adam went so much out that his voice broke - it is at 2:48 in this recording ...unless you think he did that on purpose... your thoughts...

On purpose. Never even occurred to me otherwise in my 9 trillion listens to this.
However, I am hardly a trained musician/vocalist, so I defer to those who are...

Oh yeah, that weird note, thanks for answering. I really don't think he meant to do that, but it doesn't sound quite right, lol. And I don't think his voice broke, but I don't know what the word is for that though. Maybe Cassie can tell us.

www.mtv.com/news/articles/1679844/american-idol-season-11.jhtml'American Idol': You Had Me, Then You Lost Me After 11 season, this faithful viewer might be trading 'Idol' in for new models 'The X Factor' and 'The Voice.' Sure, it's very early in the process and nobody knows what could happen. But if you recall, even in the audition stage it was already clear that eventual season-eight runner-up Adam Lambert was destined to be one of the most exciting, unusual performers in the show's history.

Hmmm, 2:48 does not sound like any break in his voice at all, to me. But I am not expert! Sounds like he is belting it and hitting it! :-/
