Vibrato is a natural occurrence. Pop singers (especially WGWGs ) force the natural vibrato out of their voice and sing with a straight tone. Freddie, Elvis, Josh Groban Celine Dion, Whitney all use/used vibrato. Even Adele uses vibrato. I don't understand the vibrato argument at all...Adam is in total control of his voice and he can produce any type of sound - just listen to My Conviction... His vibrato is beautiful as any sound he produces... period. People who criticize his vocal technique have no idea what they are talking about OR they have ulterior motives- IMO.

www.whtimes.co.uk/news/queen_on_emotional_return_to_knebworth_for_sonisphere_2012_festival_1_1219895Queen on emotional return to Knebworth for Sonisphere 2012 FestivalBy Alan Davies Friday, February 24, 2012 10:11 PM MEMBERS of music legends Queen have talked about the rock group’s ‘emotional’ return to Knebworth Park this summer as headliners of the 2012 Sonisphere Festival. But it is Queen’s special one-off show, with former American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert filling the shows of the late Freddie Mercury, that will send shockwaves through the music world. Queen guitarist Brian May said: “Judging by my incoming mail, this decision will make a lot of people very happy. “It’s a worthy challenge for us, and I’m sure Adam would meet with Freddie’s approval. “And what better place to revisit, and walk those emotional paths than Knebworth? It will be a rush.” .... Remaining original group members May and drummer Roger Taylor will be joined by US singer-songwriter Lambert, who performed We Are The Champions with the band during season eight of American Idol in May 2009. Lambert also joined May and Taylor for the closing showcase at the recent MTV Europe Awards, where Queen were present to collect their Global Icon award. Their eight-minute MTVE set went down a storm with fans. Of performing with the group again at Knebworth, Lambert said: “I’m completely in awe of the Queen phenomenon. “The thought of sharing the stage for a full set is so beautifully surreal. “I’m honoured to be able to pay my respects to Freddie’s memory. “He’s a personal hero of mine and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band. “I know the evening will be a huge milestone for me, and with the support of Brian, Roger and the rest of the band I know magic will be on display.” Queen’s previous performance at Knebworth Park was set up to be the glorious last stop for the band’s hugely successful Magic Tour. On what will undoubtedly rate as one of this summer’s most highly-anticipated and emotionally charged concerts, Queen drummer Taylor said: “I remember Knebworth as being the most incredible gig, with the most amazing audience and the sound on stage was utterly perfect. “It was a fitting last stand before a live audience for Freddie. “It will be a real challenge to complete the circle by returning with Adam.” ....

OT apparently but can someone tell me if there's any point in voting at VH1 for BTIKM - I thought I read here recently that the video was being pulled (which truly broke my heart) but since VH1 still allowed me to vote for it, I have been. But would be grateful if someone could let me know if there's any chance it will be in Top 20. Please and thank you. Also am on board for the Leap Day push for Charity Water though I'm increasingly wondering why fandom isn't supporting Adam in this. It is one of the few shows of support we actually control but only about a 1,000 people out of Adam's fandom have donated (taking into account a number of people have donated more than once.) I know I'm preaching to the choir here at Atop; I'm just out of ideas for motivating greater fandom. I hesitate to do math but I think at this point there would need to be well over a $1,000 day in donations to meet the goal by the time it closes. Ah well I guess. I'm thinking about posting the link to Charity Water at each of the sites that have posted a news article re Queen. What do you guys think of that -- too pushy and/or obvious? I did notice at one point that there was mention of over 700 birthday pledges to Charity Water -- so, I think, this money would count throughout the year.

Looks like by the time I got a chance to chime in about vibrato everyone has covered it quite well. And, yes, Freddie often used vibrato on his sustained notes. His vibrato is very narrow with rapid occillations --- it sometimes sounds almost quivering. As I wrote on the masterclass thread, I think in TSMGO Adam used a more rapid and narrow vibrato than we are accustomed to hear from him -- probably not to imitate Freddie but as a nod to his sound.
Most singers use vibrato on sustained notes. Without it, the note can sound flat in texture or piercing, without any warmth. Depending on how much training they have, they may be able to vary the speed of the vibrato and the amount of oscillation, or sing a totally straight tone. In the live performance of Feeling Good, that high sustained note at the end start with a totally straight tone, no vibrato, and then Adam adds warmth by adding a nice vibrato towards the end.
I think people who dislike or complain about vibrato are referring to the type that is so broad that you can hardly tell what the actual pitch is, kinda making one sea-sick with the rolling. Or the type that is so rapid it sounds like a goat saying, "baaaaahhh". But well-used vibrato is ubiquitous in many different genres. And, Adam is a master at using vibrato as well as many other techniques.

The Queen concert has the potential to get Adam new fans -- if the articles get filled with Adam fan comments it will be a negative. Only someone who is a committed Adam fan will give money in his name. I would stick with Adam and Idol sites.

Thanks, Cassie for your input on vibrato, too. I know you probably covered it a long time ago....I just couldn't remember.

I think a couple shows would be great -- as long as Adam makes a ton of money and it does not interfere with his Trespassing tour. That's even better... they can come and play in NY Yankee's Stadium and then come to FL to play in Tropicana Field Ray's stadium 38K.. or come to Gainsville stadium with 88K Capacity.. ;D ;D ;D I suggest U of M's stadium. They keep making it bigger. Last I remember, capacity was over 105,000.
