Very sad about Liam Payne. But I somewhat agree about the music industry putting these kids in the industry too early. A few like Taylor Swift and Harry Style came out okay on the other end of teen stardom and are still thriving as adults. But many of these teen pop stars find themselves out of favor and no longer in demand as pop stars by the time they hit 30. Short shelf life in pop for most (a little different in other genres). Even these talent shows should up the age for participation, imo. Too often these youngsters think they are going to become big stars without realizing that a lot of work and talent go into becoming a star. David Archuleta spoke of how the Idol experience damaged him at 16. But in his case, he was not only young but also struggling with his sexuality. Idol was not equipped to help him with issues his family should have known he was too young and immature to handle. Besides he was in the closet so they didn't even know he was LGBT. If they had known, they likely would have exploited his sexuality anyway. In Adam's case, he was older and already comfortable in who he was. He was not going to let Idol exploit him even if they wanted to, lol. Thankfully, they valued his talent and didn't want to. HA. He came to sing, show his talent and win a career. And he did. But he was also able to transition successfully with other opportunities when pop decided he was not a good fit in a youth and female dominated genre. Robbie Williams' songwriter thinks the music industry shouldn't work with under 18s? He's right
Liam Payne’s death last week has left the world reeling. At the age of 31, Payne fell from the third-floor balcony of his Buenos Aires hotel suite. It was, of course, a terrible, tragic event. But for music insiders, the tone feels slightly different: shock, certainly, but also a kind of sad resignation at an industry that chews up young talent and spits them out, broken, once their market value goes down.
There’s also anger. This week, Guy Chambers – one of Robbie Williams’ songwriters – called for the music industry to stop working with people under the age of 18.“I do think putting a 16-year-old in an adult world like that is potentially really damaging. Robbie experienced that, certainly,” Chambers told the Observer. He isn’t wrong: becoming famous at a young age is an experience that often inflicts lasting harm on those who go through it. Billie Eilish spoke out recently about how she’s been finding it difficult to transition to being in her twenties: “I just didn’t ever think about how I wouldn’t be the youngest person in the room forever,” she told the Los Angeles Times. "At the same time, fame really stunts you. So I find myself acting like a kid sometimes because I’m like, ‘Yeah, I got frozen in time.’ When I see other pop stars, I see that they’re still 16 a little bit. It’s kind of depressing… I’m a different person – I just didn’t really grow. I didn’t really become an adult." Payne was 14 when he first auditioned for the X Factor (tipping a cheeky wink at his future girlfriend Cheryl as he did so). Absorbed into new boyband One Direction, Payne found himself facing viral fame at the age of 16 – enough to turn anyone’s head. Payne spiralled, and once One Direction broke up in 2016 – when he was still only in his early twenties – he was left floundering, going through cycles of addiction and therapy. Despite attempting a solo career, his debut album, LP1, flopped, and he struggled to find a purpose in his life post-mega fame. www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/entertainment-celebrity/robbie-williams-songwriter-thinks-the-music-industry-shouldn-t-work-with-under-18s-he-s-right/ar-AA1sEglH?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=8aa7d1d67fac403388cfe50dc797a3ae&ei=27

Very interesting topic. I'm Not sure IT's the age alone. I think IT's also a lack of "workers portection". (Can ya Tell i'm german^^) Making Sure they are Not overworked, have psycholgical Support...
In the Justin Bieber documentary "never say never" the adults Talk to Justin in a way now child/Teenager should be spoken to. And the worst was probably Not even Shown. IT's Simply problematic when the adults around have monetary interest in you.
From my Observation the Kids whos parents don't Go seeking Publicity themeselves are better of than those whith Parents who stay private. (Exemple the Harry Potter Stars).
I've wondered more than once how Disney hasnt been Held accountable.

I've wondered more than once how Disney hasnt been Held accountable. I agree about Justin. They treated him like an adult and I think he is still paying the price for that. Years ago one annoying lady was interviewing Adam on the red carpet. She started to ask him which male celebrities he was interested in. I guess she could not think of anything to ask him about at a music event unless it was related his sexuality. It would have been an odd thing to ask him about other gay men but even more strange that she was asking him about straight men. Then she gleefully asked him what about Bieber. Adam said, he is a KID. I mean really, you are asking a grown ass gay man if he is interested in a teenager. Offensive and inappropriate if Adam were gay or straight.

I'd tie the age thing to LeAnn Rimes on the Voice. Now she seems ok, famous before twitter helps, but she talked about it a bit during her judging time. She's never had another job. Country doesn't quite seem to spit out the youngsters when they've aged as much as pop. And as we know she changed up the rules, she's very seldom had anyone tell her no.

Country doesn't quite seem to spit out the youngsters when they've aged as much as pop. And as we know she changed up the rules, she's very seldom had anyone tell her no. Leanne has well-documented struggles with mental health. Some of it was based around her and current husband hooking up when they were both still married. She was relentlessly hammered online and stepped out of the public eye for quite a few years. But she also talks about being in the spotlight from age 11. I'm not sure too many tweens and teens get out of the scrutiny unscathed. Maybe Ryan Gosling (ex Mickey Mouse Club).
