How to get good sound recordings at music concerts! Thanks so much to all the Adam fans who have recorded such wonderful videos at concerts, promos, etc. over the last few years and posted them to YouTube for all to enjoy!!! And also thanks to all the fans who have worked so hard to edit the audio & video to make these recordings better!!! I know we would all love to have great audio quality in these recordings as Adam’s voice is so magnificent. So, I’ve taken the liberty to do a little web searching to see if I could come up with some recommendations for getting good audio on concert video recordings. So, here are my findings. The sound distortions on video taken with the typical consumer quality cameras and camcorders are due to the internal microphone not being of a good enough technical quality to record the loud booming bass you hear at most pop/rock concerts. While most of these video cameras now have adjustable controls for getting great HD picture quality, very few have any adjustable controls for audio quality, not even a basic recording volume control. The usual recommendation was to use an external microphone (these can be costly) if your video camera has provisions for this (most don’t). I suspect that most concert venues might frown on this type of semi-professional looking equipment at events. On the low tech end, I saw a recommendation that covering the internal microphone with a fabric band-aid would help reduce the bass distortion, but have no idea if this really works. If anyone tests this idea, please let us know if it works. Then I found a gem – the Zoom Q3 ($119) & Q3HD ($289) video recorders with reasonable good sound quality for the price (U.S. Amazon prices quoted)! These recorders are about the size of a double thick iPhone, have 2 semi-external microphones (records in stereo) that are visually hidden by the design of the recorder, and are marketed to concertgoers. You can read more about the audio feature at: www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/q3hd/ www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/q3/ I hope some of the fans going to Sonisphere or Moscow are able to purchase one of these video recorders. Be sure to also get extra AA batteries & a 32 GB Class 10 SDHC Flash Memory card so that you can record the whole concert in high quality! Maybe I should have bought stock in this company before posting this message ;-) I'm going to Sonisphere and I own a Zoom Q3HD I plan on doing my best to get close enough for good video but far enough away to get optimum audio. I am also looking at purchasing another higher end unit, but I need to make sure I can get in without security hassling me! Wish me luck! Kanadie... I'm pretty sure all the Adam fandoms will send you all the good luck wishes and yes I pray that you won't have problem with the security. ;D ;D

Don't suppose you know anything about hacking the frequencies of the ear monitors. When I was hanging out on U2 boards one of the ways that concert ninja's got great sound was to scan for the frequencies that were being used to broadcast to the ear monitors Bono usually liked a full mix in his monitors so if they cop his frequency they'd usually get good sound. Sometimes they'd get Larry's in ears (drummer) and even though he uses a click track he likes a kind of mariachi sound instead of a hard click so it wasn't too bad. Of course the real guru's were the ones that had been to so many concerts and gotten on the sound guys cool list and were allowed to plug directly in to his board.

Tommy looked a bit nervous here and he's facing sideway most of the time. Honestly, he played the same as Kevin to my ear since I am not a band person. Love the BTIKM remix but I think the theme/mood of BTIKM is more suited for Dr Luke's production, a song meant to expose the inner self. Still enjoying the new songs, can't wait for the Album to drop Tommy was just being Tommy. He didn't seem nervous to me, just his usual reserved self. I, personally, don't think he and Kevin sound anything at all alike, but I agree with a discussion earlier or yesterday that it may be the guitar being used. From the beginning, I wasn't impressed with Kevin's guitar, Kevin- yes, guitar playing - not so much. I love him on the keys, though. I just want the whole dang band to have a few more shows then put a tour together. i miss Adam performing on stage.

Yeah this is actually not difficult to do at all if you own the equipment to do it. I do own the equipment to do it, but I am not hauling it to London, as I highly doubt they would let me in with it, because it wouldn't fit into a small backpack or your pocket. If the show was in my hometown or close I would consider it, but not that far away. I am going to just take the best possible smallish unit I can find and do my best to record it without getting busted.

Not only is Adele killing it week after week, but One Direction is releasing on 3/20/12. And the amount of publicity these kids are getting is insane. They are everywhere, so my suspicion is that Adam would again have ended up in slot #3 at that date. Anyhow, it is water under the bridge, we do not have to worry about that anymore. Now the question just becomes, who will he have to contend with, once that date is finally set? Does anyone know where to look up the major album releases planned for April and May? All the girls in my school are going crazy over One Direction. They are the new teen heartthrobs. Don't even get me started!!!!! My last night in town, so I sat with my 7 yr old granddaughter to watch the Big Time Rush movie while mom and bro are at a banquet. It seemingly was sponsored by One Direction, so every break was them clowining around, talking or describing one another, etc. They are cute as they can be, but if you take the time to watch Nick or Disney, it is nothing but a commercial for all their actors who have singing careers... Victoria Justice, Big Time Rush, China someone, etc. Shows end at :53 so music videos can fill in the time until the hour is up. I don't know whether to give props to their PR people or be appalled... leaning toward the appalled. How do you compete with that? I will miss my family, but certainly not kids' TV.

Come to think of it I don't think the in ear ninja's were even inside the venues. I think they were nearby but not inside.

I dated a hardcore bootleg taper Dead Head in college. The Grateful Dead were always tolerant of tapers, so they would all set up in the same place, about 20 to 40 feet from the stage, right in the middle. Frm anywhere in the crowd, you could see them, like a crazy forest of super tall elaborately constructed microphone towers. Some incredibly high quality music came out of those forests.
Stealth, however, has to be at the heart of anyone attempting to capture a high quality recording at an Adam show. I remember tinafae's device being quite small and compact, easily concealed. She was also on the floor, about 40 feet back, right in the center.

Hey Guys, Charity Water $66,630- 21 days left What's our plan? Are we still going for the unrelease day? I know it's a ways off, however, we should be slowly but surely spreading the word and building support. Should we challenge all of fandom to see if we can crash the site again? peace&love Two good days have been mentioned - the un-release day and Sauli's birthday (not sure exactly when that is - the 27th give or take a day?). Great idea to spread the word. Then maybe do both days if needed. Are there other forums that would be up to a challenge of some sort? And rather than encourage big donations (they are ok, of course), maybe the challenge could be the number of donations, winner calculated on % of registered members on a given day. The grand prize? Was it a twitter party w/Adam for Donors Choose? That was pretty cool... Bet he'd go for that. ;D
