I am going to remind myself out loud here what I've known all along: Adam is trying to make it big on the radio and to do so he has to make some consessions, like semi-over-produced almost auto-tuned quality songs that have a sound that fits in with other big (but more generic) stars. I was prepared to not love his new album because I didn't love FYE--until he went live! I am actually loving the new songs while still knowing in the back of my mind he could have been even better without all the directions he is pulled into try to please the radio. But with all that, Adam still shines in these songs! And picture him singing in concert people--that is when he will truly make these songs fit him!!! I disagree. He was not pulled into any directions. He chose it. . He said repeatedly he loves pop music. IMO no one forced him to make this kind of sound. It's the sound he loves. Whether any of you like this sound is another story.  |

Hi guys. Just got home early this morning. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your positive thoughts and wishes. Mom did wonderful. The doctors said she did wonderful. She looks wonderful. Up, sitting in a chair, eating well and very little pain. She's definitely a tough little shit. We're waiting on the biopsy results from her lymph nodes, but the doctor said he felt like they would be negative. I'm so exhausted, but so damn relieved.
I have no idea what is going on in the Adam world. Hopefully I didn't miss anything major.
Anyway - thanks again. You guys are great!

Love Trespassing!! Also loved loved loved Chokehold!! The snippets sound very pop, so I am still waiting for that funky sound. About Moscow, finally got ticket confirmation + train tickets + hotel booking + baby sitter. Still fixing the visa. So it seems that I am really going!! Yay! My first trip to Russia. ;D |

Ok. I am going to say this outloud. Was hoping it would sound different this morning but...In NCOE-- Adam sounds like he is impersonating Bruno. I want to go back to listen to them sing this song side by side but I am afraid to. I wish I had never heard BM sing it. I still have to work HARD to convince myself that this isn't a duet with BM on the chorus. I really fear this similarity is going to start the haters and BM fans bantering about how Adam is just a want-to-be....Sorry. Had to say it....Hope it is just my ears--I'd rather you all throw things at me than agree. I love Trespassing and Cuckoo. I have no idea about what should be a single. If I ruled the world, it would be one of those two, but if even RCA doesn't understand what sells these days, with a near-century in the business, how could I? NCOE is the first song so far from the Trespassing era that wouldn't make it on to my iPod (there were a few from FYE, most of which I liked a lot better in concert). I was dismayed when Adam was sent back to the studio to work on this song (after going around saying it hadn't made the album). I don't listen to demos but this song doesn't sound like "Adam" to my ears. I was hoping that he would be able to inject wistfulness and yearning into it. In the best of all worlds, maybe even make it distinctive and sublime. Maybe that's just not what comes out of Dr. Luke's Big Bin O' Hits. I guess we have to wait to hear Adam sing it live for that. I'm not a fan of Naked Love, I think it sounds like everything else on the radio. Fun but no emotional content. But maybe that's what the people want these days. ETA: SO GLAD to hear about your mom, sugaree!!! |

Whether any of you like this sound is another story. I know he likes pop music. But in no way do I think he didn't base a lot of his decisions on what will give him success. He has said so in the past (sorry can't pull up exactly where). He has talked about balancing his artistic integrity. Early on he talked about how pop was the way to go over rock because rock doesn't sell. Before starting album number two he said it would probably go down the WWFM path since that's what sold (Lindsey Parker interview I believe--around grammy time?). He talks about "knowing what his fans want". I don't mean to imply that Adam is a puppet. He is true to himself. But he is a shrewd businessman. Other issues pull him in directions to get him to his ultimate goal of longevity (via being a big radio success). |
