I like the honesty that has been shared here this afternoon.
Adam is a professional musician and we are his fans. Everyone here is a huge fan or they wouldn't be here.
All any of us want to do is not feel alone in the world for 3 and a half minutes, and that's what happens when we hear a song we love. But it turns out that different songs move different people. You may love NCOE and I may love Trespassing above all things, and neither of us can really explain what is in our gut. We have to use words which are inadequate, because music bypasses our intellect and goes deeper.
Maybe the thing to do is realize that when we try to describe the music on a site that is all about words -- like Adamtopia -- our words can quickly become reductive. And that it is at the expense of why we care about this stuff in the first place.
I didn't think about it before this discussion, but nonchallance has a point that "boring" and "lame" shut down the discussion. A discussion that is the reason this place exists. I'm lucky because I have my sister to talk to, but for many others this is the only place they can come to talk, and begin to explore the new galaxy of sounds that Adam is bringing our way. Reductive language draws lines and divisions between us when they don't need to exist.
Adam is a musician and it would be absurd not to discuss his music thoughtfully and at times even critically. But I am going to try to be more mindful of the way I do it, so that it opens up the conversation rather than shuts it down.

(I'm afraid to vote on that MTV March madness thing....every time I do, Panic's percentage goes up...seriously) I think it just means that a lot of people are voting against him at the same time we are voting for him!! |

If you guys have not DLd this DO IT NOW!!!!!! It sounds like a professional recording! It is sooooo good! Normally I am pretty good at this, but the only "Download" links/buttons I can find are from ads. Do I have to be a member to use sendspace now? Do the small bar that says, "Download from Sendspace" You are right, the other ones that say "Download" are all ads or DLs for programs. I had to play with the page before I found the correct one! |
