Hmm...
Lot's of personal value judgments about NCOE included in this thread, as is expected and completely understandable. The funny thing is that nothing fans say about the radio game has any actual influence on it, but value judgments about a song, whether negative or positive can influence how others inside and outside fandom perceive and receive it.
So I'll just throw in some of my own subjective observations/feelings:
NCOE for me is a fun "lets-party-all-night" song but with the twist of limited time with someone you love, there is poignancy because the morning is going to come, things will change, there are consequences, we can't remain in this bubble together forever. I can actually personally relate to it very strongly, having had a serious long-distance overseas relationship for years. Looking back at some of the happiest and most personally meaningful times of my life I was picking my way through city streets or country lanes at 5:00 am, still reeling from the magical time I'd just had.
In terms of the sound, I need to hear the final mix, but I hear the bones of dance music, and I'm intrigued and curious.
and noreaster - he performed all the single choices except Naked Love multiple times during the radio promo tour.
Why did Adam perform Trespassing on NNN (besides that it fit the occasion)? Why release snippets of all four singles, why perform multiple new songs in promo stops? Because it does give an idea of the breadth and depth of his album. The more songs that get some exposure, the more likely that listeners will hear one or more that they love, and be interested in checking out the rest of the album IMO.

Way late in responding to this comment but I had to leave. But just to be clear -- I wrote the word "political" and I believe that at least two tracks from Trespassing are political statements in that they are about equal treatment and equal rights. > Outlaws of Love > Trespassing They are as political as the civil rights era liberation songs --- for example, Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" or Marvin Gaye's Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler). Trespassing....is a gay liberation anthem: "I don't need no sympathy. I won't cry and whine. Life's my light and liberty and I'll shine when I wanna shine." That is why it is a powerful song and has substance and is important. That is also why I think that the song, and more importantly the way it deserves to be performed, might not be the best approach to winning over mainstream pop audiences or more specifically the conservative American Idol audience. ... There are lots of other songs about being different or left out -- that is not what Trespassing is about. JMHO YMMV but I think that Trespassing is not the right single for Adam at this moment and is not the right song for American Idol. I do not think the Idol audience is ready for a fierce gay man -- and Adam performing that song is fierce -- is a wonderful and great way. I also think that Trespassing will be an important song in 10 years as it will be after the album is released. What you wrote here was really interesting. I was inspired to go look up how "A Change is Gonna Come" did on its initial release in late 1964. Wikipedia has a good summary: Finally given proper attention, "A Change Is Gonna Come" became a sensation among the black community, and was used as an anthem for the ongoing civil rights protests. On R&B radio, the song peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Black Singles chart, and topped many local playlists, most notably in Chicago. The song had more limited success on top 40 radio. By February 1965, the song had peaked at number 31 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart and fallen off. *** Probably a pretty good analogy. Wikipedia also says this: Though only a moderate success sales-wise, "A Change Is Gonna Come" became an anthem for the American Civil Rights Movement, and is widely considered Cooke's best composition. ... in 2005, was voted number 12 by representatives of the music industry and press in Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time ... Go Trespassing.

I took the AfterElton quiz and got 19 out of 20! The only one I missed was the stupid Teen's Choice Award answer (grumbles). At least I won't have to give my glambert credentials back--LOL!
Interesting thread to come home to today--I was out of touch for a couple of days for Easter week-end and just got home last night. I think that the next song will be good and will do well; aside from that I am in my Zen place about it.
Now I'm going back to watch Adam kill it on the NNN Awards for the 10th time or so....
