by Brian Mansfield, USA TODAY 25 Comments Recommend We're back, with the guy Ryan Seacrest says "truly set the bar for style and spectacle on this stage." Adam Lambert does his acoustic version of Aftermath, which starts with a guitar playing a single-chord eighth-note pattern. Also backing him are an acoustic bassist and a percussionist. Spectacle? No, but it's a lovely, mellow performance that highlights the song's message: "Just remember you are not alone." The audience gives him a standing ovation. "The message is the most important thing about that song," Adam tells. "I wanted to strip it down tonight to give that the focus." He and Ryan also talk about what Adam calls the "dance club version" of the song, sales of which will benefit The Trevor Project. content.usatoday.com/communities/idolchatter/post/2011/03/adam-lambert-returns-to-american-idol/1?csp=34life

JDurbinAI10: @adamlambert It was a pleasure meeting you tonight man. Thanks for the kind words. He'll Yeah I Will!:-) : THIS is perhaps what I LOVE LOVE LOVE most about Adam - or one of the things. Gawd, he just takes that huge heart and open but sharp mind of his into a thousand different potential lion dens and barely ever gets scratched - well, barely ever lets on that he gets scratched. And the talent and beauty, of course, help him tame a lot of lions.

Is he wearing a new ring? This? It's worthy of Liz Taylor...

I also thought Adam was very emotional tonight, as Yippie pointed out. Adam's performance tonight really was all about the message (i'm thinking out loud - it's not my first time, but still . . . be gentle). If tonight his vocals had been THE most pure and impeccable vocals EVAH - well, then, it would have been all about that. He sang beautifully tonight - but not as a contestant singing for America's approval - rather, as a man for whom it IS better singing right to young people for whom it might not yet be, who need to hear the message, to know, that it can be for them, too. Adam - successful, gorgeous, happy (even in love maybe) - is the message. Not a "poster boy" - a real man.

Okay. I'm the one that was talking about the AMA's and how I read everyone's trainwreck comments. That was for the AMA's sorry I wasn't clear (a couple of people caught it). I didn't realize I didn't have a key for work tonight (boring story) so I had to leave all of a sudden with the last person. Didn't mean to drop a bomb and exit. :-/ I just got home and caught up. I think if you put yourself in the position of us west coasters that are waiting to watch (no stream - visual or sound) the comments were sounding pretty negative. Bad notes, raspy voice, bad sound, back up band not adding anything, a stoic Stephen Tyler and JLo, a husband and a son walking through and dissing the song etc. I didn't think "train wreck" but just maybe that he didn't gain any new fans especially since it didn't sound like he made it clear that this is a song for charity and he's not releasing it as a single from his album. The more recent pages....much more positive. I feel better. Sorry to seem fatalistic. I'm better now. I'm having a glass of wine and waiting to watch GNAFL. ILHSFM :

What is everyone all het up about? Put the pearls away. Performance was fine, he sounded great, looked great got exposure to huge audience on TV in nice young man role. Win win win. Carry on. haven't read last 42 pages, just want to say, could hardly recover from performance because of all the texts I was getting. 1. sister who hasn't uttered Adam's name since AMAs, not that she's a music person anyway, but texted me 3 times and couldn't believe how HANDSOME, her word, she'd never say HOT, he was and that his voice is better than she ever heard it (Idol 2009) 2. old roommate from Key West who doesn't mean to be, but is a bit homophobic (S African and very rigid at age 41) so never big fan, more Kris. Texted 7 times flailing, 3 of those mentioning the glambulge, not by name, of course, more generically, but wanted to know if it was always there. I sent her Urban Dictionary page and few photos plus random pics. 3 Best friend's daughter, socialite, mom, ha, ha - who DID use the word HOT and asked if I still had the ACOUSTIC EP I had offered her, which she sweetly declined, a few weeks ago. I hate to give one of my remaining away, but will do it for Adam. I'm sure when they bury me, I will still have "extras just in case" There are more friends showing up on email and text, so my informal deduction from all of this is that lots and lots and lots of people were very nervous about the glitter and the glam, but now are putting that aside and admitting what they have been missing. I'm going to go back and read what I've missed, but just from my personal experience, ALL WIN.
