Just watched it on TV (instead of stream earlier). The first two notes seemed a little tenuous and then the vocal in the rest was dead on. It was beautiful. His promo seemed comfortable and it didn't seem as though Ryan sidetracked him. Q3, I think your conclusion is accurate.
