Trespassing

I have read these lyrics a number of times….and listened to them more.
Well I was walking for some time,
When I came across this sign
Saying:
Who are you and where are you from?
We don’t like when visitors come.
Not Trespassing that’s what it said,
At least that’s what I could read.
No Trespassing?
Yeah, my ass!
Wait ‘till ya get a load of me!
One day I was tripping and that’s when I could see,
That the ether that I tapped into could be reality.
It was great,
That’s when I climbed that optimistic vine
Once I hit that mountain peak,
I began to lose my mind.
I don’t need no sympathy.
I won’t cry and whine.
Life’s my light and liberty and I’ll shine,
When I want to shine.
The choice of the word “TRESPASSING” for the title of Adam’s album and the title song, impressed me from the moment I heard it. It was a disarming choice. Why? Because we usually hear the phrase “No Trepassing”…….

In the context of these lyrics, the first definition of Trespassing gave me a bit of a chill. But the word itself is powerful. I started to think a bit about why this word is so powerful.
1. It is a crime to trespass.
Trespass: An unlawful intrusion that interferes with one's person or property.
Tort Law originated in England with the action of trespass. Initially trespass was any wrongful conduct directly causing injury or loss; in modern law trespass is an unauthorized entry upon land. A trespass gives the aggrieved party the right to bring a civil lawsuit and collect damages as compensation for the interference and for any harm suffered. Trespass is an intentional tort and, in some circumstances, can be punished as a crime.
2. It is a sin to trespass.
Trespass: “To commit an offense or a sin; transgress or err.”
A word that is so powerful that it plays a starring role in one of the central prayers in Christianity:
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
There are quite a few things that are illegal and sinful. Murder, theft, bigamy…….and homosexuality.
Perhaps Adam was not thinking of the meaning and power of this word – trespassing – when he chose it. Remember when fans concluded that the pomegranate in the BTIKM video symbolized a heart being crushed. Then Adam crushed that idea when he told us that he picked the pomegranate because it was cool.
Well I do not care if I am reading more into the selection of the word “TRESPASSING” than Adam had in mind. This is a powerful word and if he did not know it when he first worked on the song, he certainly knows it now. It is apparent in his performances of the song.

Never Close Our Eyes (Because We Might Miss Something)

It's really nice that Adam Lambert is an international star. We get to armchair-travel with him when he does worldwide promo. We get to know fans all over the globe on Twitter and fan sites. We get to spend ridiculous sums of money on magazines we can't read. It's round-the-clock good times. The only bad part is—that it's round-the-clock good times.
Particularly as we head full-speed into Trespassing promo era, it's not only possible but highly probable that while you're lazily snoozing, you're missing something important. You know that sick feeling you get when you wake up and find out you missed flailing in real-time over an interpretive dance performance of If I Had You on the finale of X-Factor: Liechtenstein? Sucks, doesn't it? And how about losing out on the chance to buy the limited-edition Fijian Version of Trespassing, packaged with a square-inch piece of the aqua board shorts? I know, right? Not enough tissues in the world to dry those tears.
If you've been feeling all smug that the album snippits will come out at a reasonable hour for you, enjoy it while it lasts. See how happy you are trying to navigate TicketMonster at 2 in the morning to get your Queen tickets. Or stumbling into work dead tired after you set your alarm for 4am to watch a livestream radio concert on another continent.
You think Adam picked NCOE because it was an excellent, radio-friendly song with a killer writing collab? No, he picked it as a message to us: "There's plenty of time to sleep when we die." Yes, if Adam had his way, we'd never close our eyes. Nevah!!!
The only solution is to embrace sleep deprivation as a lifestyle. Wear dark colors to match the circles under your eyes. Learn to catch quick catnaps when you can, like slumped over the grocery cart in the checkout line. To avoid accidents, avoid operating heavy machinery such as vacuum cleaners or electric toothbrushes. And when it gets really hard and you're so exhausted you can barely think and you feel like you just can't go on, remind yourself that in about two years when Adam finishes his next tour and settles down to work on album #3, you'll have plenty of time to catch up on your rest.
Until then, forget about the sunrise, fight the sleep in your eyes, and brew some more coffee! You know there's always someone halfway around the world ready to bert with you!
