I've been so busy in RL lately, and now I'm sitting at the computer with my eyes propped open, and really needing to go to sleep, but just had to comment (I hope quickly).
First, NoAngel, really loved your essay today. Beautiful writing, beautiful words and insights. Want to reread it a bunch of times. Somewhat to my surprise, Broken English has been one of my two favorite snippets.
And Ladyoz,, like you, Broken English reminded me of Broken Open, and I loved what you said, that they are both so personal and deal with unconditional love. I hadn't seen anyone else comment on a similarity between them. In addition to what you said, the other thing that struck me was what NoAngel called the "weird sci-fi intro and alien sounds" in Broken English -- that also for me is so reminiscent of Broken Open.
I'm not a big fan of snippets; I really find them frustrating and want to hear the whole songs. But of course I had to listen a couple of times. The snippets that I loved the most and that stood out for me the most on first listen were Shady and Broken English. I think that's still true. Shady kept sneaking incognito into my mind all week. Chokehold and Underneath are my next favorites, with Chokehold staying in my head pretty constantly. And I'm really liking both Trespassing and Never Close Our Eyes. BTIKM has grown on me, but for some reason I'm liking Cuckoo less than I did. Not sure how I feel about some of the others, but my least favorite at this moment is Naked Love. I'm aware that my feelings may well change when I hear the whole album, and they're likely to change again when I hear the songs live.
And...I will hear at least some of the songs live in the near future because I'm going to Wilkes Barre!!!!!!!!! The one Adam fan I know in real life is going and had an extra ticket! Got that email just in time, too, because I had missed the presale and was starting to scope out Stubhub. London is not an option for me but I'm so excited about this concert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D :D :D
