II listened to Joshua Ledet's "Ready for Love" performance after Adam tweeted about it and was really taken by the beauty of it, vocally and emotionally. I have been reading the comments on his you-tube and AI.com performances (I know, I know) and they are riddled with hate. He is coined the new "Jacob Lusk" . Apparently because they share similar skin-tones and singing style we are to assume that Joshua is a gay boy too (gasp!). Or maybe the clips I've missed clue us in to his sexuality, I don't know. But many of these commenter are not talking about his voice. I can't help but watch his beautiful performance--noticing that his dislikes are half of the likes--and see Adam's fight. This is the new civil rights fight Adam speaks of. Perhaps he is even fighting on two fronts, one for the color of his skin highlighted by his "churchy" R&B sound, and the other for his perceived sexuality. He may not deserve to win but he deserves a fair chance. I think in season 8, American came close to beating out discrimination. But in season 11, I think the combination of fights is going to be impossible for him to overcome. All he wants is to be heard. To be judged for his music....Just like Adam. So true! I don't watch Idol but the overall truth of what you are saying hits home, in combination with 1) Adam's statements in the Instinct interview 2) our interesting and enlightening discussion about them here 3) Adam's apparently feeling that he needed to apologize for what he said. The (unanswerable) question is why do we have this tension in our society -- straight, gay, male, female, young, old -- to try to crush and drive out talent through mockery and insinuation? Adam knows. Idol knows. They just don't want to tell us yet. They have got to schedule these things to make sure the artists are lined up. When Shoshonna said her lips are sealed, that specifically means that she knows but wont tell. I think that the closer to the end of the season the more desirable. The timing is great for Adam--end of the season and in line with the album promo. Don't stress. He is confirmed. They are just trying to dole out the excitement one week at a time. Idol hasn't even announced next week's guest. We expect Carrie. They have been announcing really last minute all season. Crap--that obvious, huh? But he is sexy when singing to the rain clouds!! I don't care about watching Adam in the rain. But no one knows if Kimmel would cancel due to rain. So, please hope for the rain to stop. Forecast is that it will stop by noon. The satellite photos show small pockets of rain, so I think "stop by noon" may be a reality. Well, in that case, I remove all ambiguity from my statement! Send your clouds my way, pronto! |
