I know there is an AI thread (that I don't go to because I only watch the performances on you-tube afterwards) but I wanted to address this here. Forgive me if I am speaking with limited knowledge, because I have missed so much of this season. I listened to Joshua Ledet's "Ready for Love" performance after Adam tweeted about it and was really taken by the beauty of it, vocally and emotionally. I have been reading the comments on his you-tube and AI.com performances (I know, I know) and they are riddled with hate. He is coined the new "Jacob Lusk" . Apparently because they share similar skin-tones and singing style we are to assume that Joshua is a gay boy too (gasp!). Or maybe the clips I've missed clue us in to his sexuality, I don't know. But many of these commenter are not talking about his voice. I can't help but watch his beautiful performance--noticing that his dislikes are half of the likes--and see Adam's fight. This is the new civil rights fight Adam speaks of. Perhaps he is even fighting on two fronts, one for the color of his skin highlighted by his "churchy" R&B sound, and the other for his perceived sexuality. He may not deserve to win but he deserves a fair chance. I think in season 8, American came close to beating out discrimination. But in season 11, I think the combination of fights is going to be impossible for him to overcome. All he wants is to be heard. To be judged for his music....Just like Adam. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hylvMUtFyC8Hmm, don't hate me for this, but to me, he is a lot like Jacob Lusk. I actually named him the Jacob Lusk 2.0, but better voice and better performing skills, and um..smaller, lol. They do have similar singing styles though. With Jacob Lusk, i couldn't stand him once we got to the live shows. His singing, and performing skills was just so overwrought, and not in a good way, that it made it uncomfortable for me to watch at times. Joshua is what Jacob could have been if he would've honed his skills, and if he wasn't so annoyingly judgmental and preachy. I didn't really start this as a discussion of whether people like his voice. What I meant was he was being labelled and assigned a box. Even if you hate his voice, he doesn't deserve to have hate comments aimed at his perceived sexuality. Or assosiated with another due to similar race. I wouldn't have a problem if people were smashing him because he doesn't sing to their taste--then I think they'd be less emphatic anyway. I think it is far more complex than that. Why did you call him Jacob Lusk 2.0 exactly? You list a lot of reasons why he is not like him and only his singing style that was similar. Seems like a little stereotyping to me or at the very least categorizing people. I guess I am sensitive with all this discrimination talk going on here and Adam being one of the ones discriminated against. You see, I hate labeling (which always comes with assumptions) whether it's African American, white, a member of the gay "community", even man or woman. Why aren't we all just a member of the human race? Joshua Ledet shouldn't be compared to Jacob Lusk and Adam shouldn't be compared to Johnny Weir. I don't want a label put on me or have me compared to any others, so I wont do that to anyone else. I wont be ashamed or proud of something I was born with. As I was driving around today I was thinking about how all the international members here must think this country is full of a bunch of bigots, yet that is not the country or people I know and I don't think it is a fair representation of our society. But the more I think about it the more I wonder if it is--deep down. If it is not that people are outright haters but if it is just that they have all these preconceived notions of people that seem innocuous but in the end translate to a quiet nonacceptance of things out of the norm or expected. I apologize for my rant. And this is no way aimed at marie. Hers was just the last post I read re AI and thus the easiest to quote. And I guess I should also mention that I am aiming this question inward to myself too. If there is one thing Adam has done for me, it is to recognize and reassess things in myself that I never thought were there. Looking forward to the music tonight. Adam will knock their socks off! Enjoy everyone there and watching from home!

Late to the party on the whole "screaming queen" article discussion. Adam is a total screaming queen and loved and agreed with the article.
Sure he can be alpha, he can also be beta and omega and everything in between. None of those things are disparaging to him. He happily owns who he is and so least we can do is be ok with it.
Could it be any negative reaction to the article is more about us than him? Because surely for us all to lust after a screaming queen would be wrong, but its completely fine if he's all alpha who'e just in touch with his feminine side... Although, he wears more make up and higher heels than most women I know, has better manicure and owns enough jewellery to sink the titanic and has a bigger wardrobe - so maybe bit more than "in touch with" :-) and that's just fine. He is who he is. And yes the the "gay community" shouldn't be so squeamish about embracing the different. But as I noted yesterday, it's hard to do when you're trying so hard not to be (different that is).

Thanks to all who gave me info on the Adam/Sauli beginning. I knew the story not the time frame. That week Adam didn't know Sauli was a celebrity still has me wondering. I am looking forward to exploring more of it when the family goes to bed! This is a great place with a wealth of generous information sharing and endless fun!
