Interesting article Trapped: Many artists selling singles, not albums news.yahoo.com/trapped-many-artists-selling-singles-not-albums-133157844.htmlNe-Yo, the Grammy-winning hitmaker who has written smashes for the likes of Beyonce and Rihanna, blames the phenomenon on a lack of personality and originality from the artists. "I feel like it falls on the shoulders of not only the record label, but the artists themselves. I feel like the thing that makes you go out and get a person's whole album is you liking that artist, you connecting with that artist," said Ne-Yo, who recently became the senior vice president of A&R for Universal Motown Records. "I feel like a lot of people are saying that the industry is moving to just being singles driven, and that's kind of a cop out to me. So it's like, basically that means that we sign a bunch of disposal artists, you know, as long as we get one hit that's good? That's B.S.," continued Ne-Yo. Ne-Yo added that today's music executives should be "taking the time and spending the money that it takes to make sure that you're building icons, not fly-by-night, add water-and-stir artists." Tom Corson, the COO and president of RCA Records — the label home of Pitbull and Posner — says that just because an artist doesn't sell a lot of albums doesn't make the act a failure. He said record companies determine an album's success by an artist's TEA, which stands for track-equivalent-albums. "You have certain artists that sell 300,000 albums, but sell 10 million tracks. That's the equivalent of 1.3 million albums," he explained.

For all those non-native English speakers (who, honestly, speak so well that I am starting to doubt that you are not holed up farmers in Nebraska somewhere--or maybe they wouldn't speak as well as you guys actually)...if you ever want to know what a lyric of Adam's means, just assume SEX. Hot, steamy, teasing, sex. I apologize to whoever I told the literal meaning of "fragments don't count, they only fall thru the cracks". I am sure now that every single phrase in BE is a medaphorical way of describing the torrid details of Adam's desires. So think dirty, very dirty and you may start to understand the meaning to some of these songs. ETA: or maybe I am just hot and bothered after watching that BE performance so many times? How did you find me out ?!? ;D Seriously though, this is an opportunity for me to say what I've feeling for a long time, that the English speakers in this board are so kind, and so generous in their compliments for non English speakers, that it makes me completely at ease expressing myself here. So I want to thank you all for being so patient and understanding

Thanks, Cassie. I always love reading your opinions. The divas are a welcome addition. Was there any backing track at all? I hated the track last era. Were Adam and the divas on a different key on the first verse of NCOE? Adam sounded a little sharp to my ears in the very beginning. I didn't hear a hint of a backing track either vocally or instrumentally. Did anyone else? I know that backing tracks are ubiquitous in pop today, but Adam has so much more freedom if he has live musicians to follow him wherever he wants to take a song. The divas sang a harmony above Adam's at the very beginning. Unexpected, but not off key. Adam's voice did not sound sharp to me at the beginning either, but I would say that they had the mics really hot for that range of his voice so on top of Adam's naturally present, floating voice, he may have had an extra punch in certain frequencies to make it pop even more. (And since you are asking about pitch, yeah, that last "never" shout was flat. Sorta like the last note on Black or White on Idol. But, who the hell notices or cares?)

I thought so, too, but couldn't decide if it was just because I wasn't expecting it to be pitched so high compared to the studio version? So they're only going to have NCOE and TP on Kimmel's site? I'm having a bitch of a time playing the clips elsewhere, and now am trying to get used to Chrome. I am one slow-assed learner, let me tell you... he fixed it really really quickly

The part where he sings "wires get croooossed" on BE and the divas do the back up singing and he sings it in a bluesy way, killed me.

I have been enjoying Kimmel stuff all day - extravagant! Thank you all who have been bringing in the material (or links to)! On YleX Finland there is Perjantaitoiveboxi (playing requested songs) from 5-8 pm. Still 1.5 hours to make a wish here ylex.yle.fi/radio/ohjelmat/uuden-musiikin-iltavuoro/perjantaitoiveboxi Two things that are compulsory are toivebiisisi=requested song and nimesi=name, in between there is room for why. I would leave the why's for the Finnish speaking people but don't see any harm done if some of you would make a wish too... ETA Forgot to mention that they have played BTIKM twice today, but no NCOE. I was hoping NCOE ... They will play NCOE now!!

Adam actually FIXED the spots that I hated, he left those annoying (TO ME) parts to the backup singers while he sang some "imbelishments"! You have no idea how happy it made me! It's like I was vindicated in my noticing the weak spots....now corrected and vastly improved! - I can load the Kimmel NCOE on my ipod now! Everything else - PURE PERFECTION! the look, the energy, the voice, the moves, the band, the backup vjs, his beaming with happiness!!! I saw a reference to 1000 people in attendance. I seriously doubt it is a correct number, the crowd seems much larger. I am comparing with the Central Park Summer stage (GMA 2009) and it looks very similar in size. Summer stage holds 5000, so IMO - the crowd at Kimmel was no smaller than 3000.
