thanks for this and I'm pretty sure you won't get banned. I have no clue what the Village Voice is. ??? Please inform us? thanks! It's a major arts & culture magazine in NYC - probably the biggest outside the NYT. It's has huge readership (including a massive gay readership) and a great deal of credibility. It was founded by Norman Mailer, among others, back in the 50's. As an authority on the arts it commands a hell of a lot of respect and them writing about Trespassing is a major pr coup for Adam. That's why I am begging people to please not spoil it with their comments. We want the readers of this publication on board. The Village Voice is highly respected not only in the US but everywhere around the world and you're absolutely right in everything you said.

I'm posting this here because I know a couple of the commenters go here. To those leaving comments on The Village Voice article saying "Why does it matter if he's gay?" Firstly, do you even know what The Village Voice is? Secondly, that 5-page article off the back of the release of his album is major promo in NYC. Please stop telling publications with large gay readerships that it doesn't matter if Adam is gay. It DOES matter to those of us in the gay community. A huge amount as it happens. To have an out mainstream artist like him is incredibly important and to have a publication like the Village Voice on side is a major coup. Those comments you people leave places are insulting beyond belief to both us and to Adam. I imagine this will be the last comment I leave before I get banned for posting this but hopefully some of you will think before you post in future. I realize this does not apply to everyone here by all means by the way but there are people here are repeat offenders on this front. Good post but please don't say I was insulted. They were only trying to help, they just missed the point a bit.

cassie I was not sure if that was Adam opening on Runnin just wow. I know what you mean. This is just my silly little theory, but.... People keep referring to Take One because it shows Adam's lower register that we haven't heard much of on his legitimate work. Do you think maybe said, "You want low register? Don't bother with that drek. Here you go. This is ME as a baritone (and a tenor, and a soprano)." I don't know if Adam intentionally meant to show the world the versatility and diversity of his voice, but, intentional or not, it is obvious on this album. RUNNING: his low voice feels like "melted think chocolate"... like rich velvet.. ( Catz - you are me)... erotic.... words fail me...just feelings.... RUNNING SHOULD'VE BEEN THE FIRST SINGLE!

This is not an article in The Village Voice -- it is a blog on The Village Voice website. A bit different. But I agree --- if Adam can get the Billboard 200 #1 album, it will be a milestone that should not pass without notice. To quote the blogger: "Why am I proposing we shell out hard cash for this frothy and reportedly fun pop disc, which is as light and apolitical as Bridesmaids was? Because in the nearly 60-year history of the weekly Billboard album chart, no single-artist title credited to an out gay performer has ever been our No. 1 album. (Nope, not him. Or him, either. Or her.)
The key word in the above sentence is, of course, out. Numerous artists who have emerged from the closet in the last few decades, as the gay-rights movement has come out of the shadows, have topped the album chart. But crucially, not a one of them did so while fully public about his or her sexual orientation."Link to article: blogs.villagevoice.com/music/2012/05/adam_lambert_gay_pop_star.php The problem I have with this article, it that the writer has little or no familiarity with Adam's music and refers to the album as "light" and "apolitical". Clearly he has not even listened to Trespassing and OOL. If this album opens at #1, it will be a milestone NOT just because Adam is gay, but because this album is a by an openly gay artist whose life and quest for love and acceptance is the core message of the album. It is honest, not "frothy". And it will be a milestone on its own terms as a great album by an artist. My suggestion is that writers should listen to an album before they attempt to characterize it.

With all due respect, I don't think that people who write comments like "Why does it matter if he's gay?" want to isnsult anyone. They want to make a point (maybe not eloquently enough) that it's music what should matters here. Those kind of comments are equivalent of "Why does it matter if Madonna is straight?" But it doesn't matter that she is straight and nobody asks about it, but it does matter that he is gay? Funny thing is that we all want to live in world without those labels gay/straight but all we do every day is to make them stronger.
