I do not think there is any chance a bonus track will ever be released as a single.
Setting that aside, and I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I am not a huge fan of Runnin' -- I think if he performs this live, like "Aftermath", I will be a fan of the live, more stripped version of the song.
IMO Runnin' would not get much radio airplay. I think there are several better choices for radio --- Shady is top of my list, but Cuckoo, Chokehold, Naked Love, Broken English (with a radio edit of the instrumental break), and a few other tracks would be more suited to mainstream pop radio and HAC.
Runnin' has a somewhat dated rock-orientated beat -- and doesn't really fit any radio format.
Finally, Adam needs a single that will get airplay on CHR and HAC, plus get played in the US and in other countries. The best possibilities are the dance-pop tracks and the mid-tempo ballads.
----
'Runnin' and 'Shady' are my teens favorites of songs on the album so I don't think 'Runnin' is dated. Doesn't the current No1 'We are young' have a rock orientated beat? My 17 year old also liked 'that Micheal Jackson type song that has a girl singing in it'?! ;D
"We Are Young" is a power ballad -- alt rock + power pop.
"Runnin'" has more of a theatrical rock backbone and is not a classic power ballad -- like Muse or early Meat Loaf. It was not constructed or produced to be a radio single either. There are lots of other possible singles that were built for radio.
>> Just because it is not a possible single track, or even a bonus track, does not mean it is not important -- Voodoo for example framed the first act of GNT. Album tracks are why people buy albums. Underneath is a perfect album track.
It is all hypothetical because Runnin' did not even make the main album cut -- which indicates that the label did not think highly of it to put it on the base album. They are very unlikely to pick it as a single.
We know the four songs that were in contention to be single #2 - NCOE, Shady, Cuckoo and Naked Love. Seems likely that single #3 (if Adam gets a 3rd single) will be from this list.
The producer, Robert Marvin, is not a proven Top 40 hitmaker. Labels are conservative and will go to proven winners, not take unneeded chances.
And also I cannot see how this track as a single fits into what RCA told Billboard:
"RCA hopes to expand on Lambert's pop appeal through radio. Senior VP of promotion Adrian Moreira says the singer's strongest format is adult top 40, whose listeners tend to be females age 18-34. To build on that demographic, Lambert visited mainstream and adult top 40 stations across the country in March to meet with programmers and music directors and perform acoustically for listeners."
Adult Top 40 is stations ranging from Z100 NY to STAR 94. These are stations that play Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Bruno Mars and so on.
My hope remains that NCOE is a big hit -- and we do not have to think about a 3rd single until October. Then they can follow up with a real dance track and Adam can finally have the dance-pop hit he deserves.

Just another comment about the font issues discussed earlier ... I did some research on this earlier for a newsletter I produce that switched from print to digital. Although the prevailing preference for reading print material is a serif font (such as Times), on a computer screen sans serif fonts are MUCH easier to read, and Verdana seems to be a popular choice.
So I hate to say this, Q3 and a few others, but I find your posts in a serif font to be particularly difficult to read, especially in the smallish default type size.
Sorry! :(

NL has smash hit written all over it. I think NCOE can and will do ok, but you wonder about the single selection process! I am not crazy about Naked Love - but it is a happy, easy-breezy song that would be fun to hear on the radio
I love Naked Love since I heard the snippit, I love it even more after watching Adam performed it live on Jimmy Kimmel's coz it's very anthemy... .. my choice for next single are Cuckoo, Shady and Naked Love.

... and I was happy thinking that "I am breathing the same air"... BTW - most beautiful sunny warm and upbeat day here in NYC! We are ready for the awesomeness! on another topic: I just (impulsively) bought a bag of washed and cut kale... I DO NOT COOK! I can't prepare anything that involves heat (except for microwave)... I hardly know how to turn my stove on... i have no idea what to do ...is it eatable in salad? HELP!!! Nica, Here's a recipe for kale salad that I really enjoy: Farmer Stu’s Kale Salad (Chef Jesse Cool) 1 large bunch organic kale, thinly sliced 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil 1 small red onion, thinly sliced 2 garlic cloves, minced 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 1 hot chile pepper (such as jalapeño, serrano, or habenaro), seeded and minced Salt Freshly ground black pepper Lightly steam the kale and allow to cool (my adaptation). Heat the oil in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook for 6 minutes, or until very soft. Add the vinegar and chile pepper. Cook for 1 minute. Pour the mixture over the kale and toss well. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. (I also like to add toasted pumpkin seeds and currants.) Serve immediately. Makes 4 servings
I think it's better to use Baby Kale for salad.

My posts should not be "smallish". But is it hard to read?
