I came here because I saw swarm's post in News about the trolls on QOL & that hideous Durbin thread on Amazon.
This puzzles & disturbs me so much that I am almost incoherent on the subject. Who are these people who spend a great portion of their lives hating on one particular artist on the internet? And why wouldn't they be aware that using that time to support the artist they are actually fans of might actually HELP that performer more than hate spewed at someone else?
The only thing I can come up with is that these people are clinically insane. And that's not hyperbole. I really mean it - clinically insane. ...they must be sick... taking pleasure in hating for the sake of hating and in getting other people upset ON PURPOSE and enjoying the effects of their trolling points to a myriad of psychological problems... feel sorry for these poor souls... I'm also in shock. Are these the VFTW people who needed a new place to infest when the AL threads were locked down? How clever of them to hide in a James Durbin thread where casual passing through JD fans were unlikely to out them. I don't think Natalie is the Milkman. I think she is 'Tattletale' or 'Desiree'.

I just checked and Tattletale joined on June 17, so I think that she is Natalie. I'm sure Desiree is one of the others.
The Milkman may be Tracy Jacks.

Our culture is homophobic and patriarchal. "Mainstream" is whatever a straight man finds sexy. Perry and Gaga can be mainstream despite their eccentricities because they fundamentally fit that ideal. Adam's flaming headdress and boy on boy sessions will not turn on straight men and can't be mainstreamed. This is simplistic but I think it has been true for two hundred years. Women are given more leeway in playing with and displaying their sexy, because it turns straight men on.
[/b] Then how would you explain the ambiguous and blatant male sexuality that was displayed in the 70's and 80's? David Bowie in a dress? Guys with their bulges and tight pants, strumming their guitars in that certain way . KISS and their makeup? (not sexy but not stereotype male). Jim Morrison? I grew up with that and believe it is part of my attraction to Adam. And later, the new wave pop of Thompson Twins, Culture Club, Prince! etc? Loved them all too! Women displaying aggressive sexuality is a relatively new thing that I think Madonna ushered in. I can only hope the pendulum will swing back and Adam can be a part of that. Many popular male artists today are bland, boring, or crass. [/quote] I don't see the pendulum swinging back anytime soon. America has always been puritanical but something happened in the 80's- the Reagan era and the rise of the religious right. Also in music, the rise of rap and hip-hop which boasts a machismo, and at times very chauvenistic viewpoint/image. The hip-hop community hasn't been all that different from the right wing on many levels, esp when it comes to blatant homophobia and sexism.

Completely different image and style from Adam. He also has a lot of support from his peers in the music community, something Adam has never really had. Ocean is selling albums but I don't think radio is really picking up on him in the US. Radio1 has picked him up in the UK. But to be fair, Ocean's album is not really mainstream, at least not mainstream for US radio. But he does appeal to the people who are kind of music snobs as well. Add to that, his management and label handled his promotion brilliantly.

Which is exactly why I believe that his path to success will not mirror anyone else's path. Which is exactly why I believe that success on radio is but one component. I see Adam breaking his own glass ceiling by hammering at it from many angles, not just the one.
That's all I'm trying to say- that for me focusing on radio as the only measure of his success is painting an incomplete picture.

I know I should stay away from MJ's, but I read several posts that said last night Adam asked his fans if they had bought his CD and to do it because if not there would be no more CDs or something of that order. They said that he sounded serious and and "crushed". I watched the live stream, but didn't see this only joy and great music. If true, this is so sad and also a major worry.

He repeatedly said that there will be more singles, more videos and this is just a beginning. Last night's concert at FS was of course a definition of a performance by a doomed and crushed artist. ;D
