People on Twitter are saying that By The Rules might be the albums first filler, and I slightly agree with them. But I actually like the song. It reminds me of Taio Cruz a little bit. It's catchy. I only listened to it once a few hours ago, and even after listening to the rest of the album twice, in full, I still have the chorus stuck in my head. aren't bonus tracks by their very definition "filler" since they don't ever get released as singles? I think people use the word "filler" to mean not as good as the other songs. Something the artist uses to get to that magic number of 12 tracks. Whereas, Trespassing pretty much has 15 great songs, including the bonus tracks. There are quite a few songs, on Trespassing that could never be a single because of US radio idiocy :  , but I would not call them "fillers" because they are great songs. |

Bonus tracks are all kinds of different things but most often tracks that did not make the album and written by the artist. The labels limit the number of tracks on an album because of the required mechanical royalties. Unless there is a contract modification on Adam's contracts with 19R and RCA, there are no mechanical royalties for bonus tracks. The rate of mechanical royalties varies by country. "The current statutory mechanical royalty rate for physical recordings (such as CDs) and permanent digital downloads is 9.1¢ for recordings of a song 5 minutes or less, and 1.75¢ per minute or fraction thereof for those over 5 minutes." Been lurking for ages, decided to register to share with you guys that I received my trespassing japanese edition today! Weird that it arrived so early...the release date is 6/6. Just uploaded to youtube Welcome, monsterdeto and thanks for sharing Adam's new music. BTW Adam's moves here really sync with "By The Rules" ;D  Ha ha, you are so right. It really ups the enjoyable factor for me, so thanks ;D |

It totally sounds like Adam to me. And I love the vibe of the song, StingSadeReggaewhatever 8-). Awesome that he's trying different styles. Thanks monsterdeto for uploading it. Yes, true, I think so. But I think what people meant by filler is that, it's one of those songs that could have been left off, and it wouldn't have really mattered either way. All the other three bonus songs are strong songs. That even if they don't exactly fit Trespassing, stylistically, they can be put on a different album of similar vibe songs, and will still make a strong case for being there. After only hearing it once, I like the song. I can't wait to get home, so I can listen to it with some better earphones, and a better connection as well. The song is giving me some strong Adam-singing-with-dreads-in-Atlanta flashbacks. Really light, breezy and fun. |
