JazzRocks, I just saw the final HDD numbers too and have to disagree. #25 11K and -52% is frankly terrible IMO. FYE dropped 9% (51K to 46K) in its third week of release. That was the holiday shopping season instead of June, but still. -52% this week on top of -71% last week is just bad.
After three weeks, Trespassing has sold about 110K. FYE had sold about 295K after three weeks.
Adam has barely had any radio presence this era, so I would say sales are good considering.
But I'm not going to pretend (and I wouldn't say this on twitter---if I was on twitter, lol---or at a place like MJ's, where the sharks are circling), I feel like it's safe to say it here, the album is not doing well. IMO, but the numbers are pretty clear. It could easily slide down to 5 or 6K next week.
Still, I am more optimistic about NCOE today than I was yesterday. So, not giving up.
eta---still struggling a little to adjust my expectations; it's not easy; and also beginning to accept that Adam is probably more "niche" than I realized (although, hopefully this will change in time)

Sorry to disagree but it is not "terrible" -- it is typical. Ugly but typical.
Trespassing is not a post-Idol release, it is not a Holiday season release and it was released heading into the slowest retail season in the US. The shopping week included Memorial Day and is not a big retail week.
Look at some of the debuts this week -- Scissor Sisters debuted at <10K about half what they did with their last album (2010).
The number 1 album did 67K, and the #1 debut sold 39K.

Trespassing is on Spotify and Last FM and hundreds of web-accessible sites. I own T but I have only listened to a disc once. I bought them as a fan collectible. I listen to the music from the Web.

Once NCOE gets on VH1 top 20 I think the album will be fine. RCA seems to think they have this year and next with other singles coming out, appearances and of course the rest of the world.I see it as a long term album.. there is no way Trespassing is going to fade into oblivion.. It's a great CD . IMHO it will be up for a number of Grammys,if not more. "Rome wasn't built in a day"
If it was anyone other than Adam, I might say "terrible," too. But it isn't unexpected. And it is happening nearly across the board (unless you're country, or Adele, or Mayer.
Forget the Holidays, FYE didn't drop below 10K until late Spring, I think. And the album sustained around 5K for much of the year. (someone can correct me if I'm off on the figures, which I very well could be)
Obviously none of us know exactly what RCA expected, but considering what have to be high production and promotional costs already expended, I can't imagine they are pleased with the sales numbers of the album, nor the track downloads of the singles, nor the radio airplay to this point. Maybe something will happen to change the trajectory of one or more of those items, but there is not any evidence of that happening yet.
IMO a third single is not at all assured at this point.

Ok guys -
The Add Board dings every week, but Venus is do'n its thang only once every 125 years, and I'll be too old the next time it comes around.
Picking up the kid and heading to the astronomy viewing party at our local university. If no one else pulls it together, I'll do the 'Ding String' when I return!!

It could just as easily slide back up. NCOE is just being heard. Adam is in the UK, but will get major press for the Queen performances. UK market looks more promising this time. A good EU debut will bring more press. The video will begin it's run on VH1.
The album debuted at #1. The video is #1. The album is critically acclaimed. This is another good adds week. The single is moving up the chart, not down.
Adam is perceived as a WINNER everywhere, but here. The haters are not as negative about Adam as the fans here.
