Ugh! I'm not happy about this. Isn't Cumulus the group that wouldn't play Adam? Now they will be bigger than ever. Cumulus And Citadel Get OK From Department Of JusticeCUMULUS MEDIA INC. and CITADEL BROADCASTING CORPORATION TODAY (9/13) made it official that they have been notified by the Premerger Notification Office of the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION of the early termination of the waiting period under the HART-SCOTT-RODINO ANTITRUST IMPROVEMENTS ACT OF 1976 regarding the review of the pending merger of Cumulus Media and Citadel (the "Merger"). The early termination of the waiting period satisfies the condition to the completion of the Merger relating to the expiration or termination of any applicable waiting period under the HSR Act. Business Matters: Why 2011 Is the Year Digital Music Broke, by the NumbersWhy 2011 Is the Year Digital Music Broke 2011 could end being the year digital music broke. Yes, the iTunes Music Store launched back in 2003. But 2011 has been a truly incredible year for digital music. Perhaps most important is the big improvement in download sales. This year's increase in digital downloads could result in around $300 million of incremental consumer spending by the end of the year, based on Billboard estimates using Nielsen SoundScan data. www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/digital-and-mobile/business-matters-why-2011-is-the-year-digital-1005378032.story

Exclusive: Clear Channel, Big Machine Strike Deal to Pay Sound-Recording Performance Royalties To Label, Artistswww.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/legal-and-management/exclusive-clear-channel-big-machine-strike-1007226762.storyIn an unprecedented deal, Clear Channel, the largest owner of U.S. radio stations, has agreed to pay sound-recording performance royalties to Scott Borchetta's Big Machine Label Group and its artists. The sound recording performance royalty -- which is also known as the artist performance royalty and is not to be confused with the songwriter performance royalty -- is something that record labels and artist have been fighting to obtain from U.S. radio for decades. Currently, in the U.S., they have only been successful in winning such a royalty in the digital radio space. As part of its deal with Big Machine, Clear Channel will pay an undisclosed percentage of music advertising revenue for broadcasts whether they are heard digitally or terrestrially, instead of the legislatively mandated sound-recording royalty for only digital, which currently is in the form of a pay-per-play royalty set at $0.002 for 2012. more...
