The radio station will only consider playing THE single (NCOE) but they often play a few tracks from a new album when considering if they should play THE single. It sort of makes sense -- these are music pros who are supposed to know about the artist and about new music. The e-mail exchange may have been to keep a listener happy with polite chatter and responsive, interactive messages. Just a guess but it is a common customer engagement practice. I'm not wondering about the radio station knowing what the current single is. I'm wondering why a fan would request a song that wasn't the single, unless they didn't know what it was. Maybe this fan isn't on any fanboard and doesn't know that BTIKM was the first ssiingle and NCOE is the current single? I could see that happening. Makes sense to me that an Adam fan who is not a regular Top 40 listener and who doesn't spend time on fansites might not realize that a Top 40 station only plays singles. A "single" is actually an odd concept since we really do not have physical singles in the US anymore. And every track on an album can be purchased as a single. And radio stations have been playing album tracks on the radio regularly since the late 60's. |
