About the "F Word" interview - I found myself crying "I DO love you, ADAM!" at the computer, and so wished I could reach out and give him a big hug.

My 2 cents.
Band politics are not easy. The members of a band are all individuals with all that that entails. They also have their own hopes and dreams. As with any group of working people, they might be people who would be friends in "real life," or they might not. They can forget that they are "disposable."
On the other hand, working together with the same people over a period of time -- sometimes many years -- can result in a beautiful creative partnership. The partnership between Tony Bennett and his longtime piano sideman Ralph Sharon is just one example. Especially for an artist who is renowned as a live performer, having a great band is a must. Adam is just a beginner at all this, still. It will take time to develop and he will keep working at it.
In addition, I understand there are significant tax advantages for Adam in having his own band (a legitimate business expense) than in simply using a pickup band where it is just money down the drain.

If I were there, I'd have taken my shirt off the second he said "I wanna see tits"! I've never done it before, but I'm sure I wouldn't be able to refuse his orders 8-) I almost took it off here at home, just watching the video... ;D ;D  ;D ;D ;D chapf, you just made my day!!!! I'm not sure how to vote on this.. ? I'm not sure if this is how to vote but seems to work since it won't allow me to do it again: I clicked on #1 (peak-to-1) and a drop down pops up and I clicked on #2 (whatever it says underneath #1) :D

Replace the original band with the UK band Not really, if you want the original band to sound like the UK band, just turn down their volume and play back the backing track  IMHO, the G-A-Y performance was mostly Adam + backing track, with the band just standing there, "playing". Compare to the different arrangements the original band does on Shady for example, or the long improvisations at the end of Cuckoo or Naked Love the original band can do because they actually play live and can stop or extend where needed. I wouldn't even claim I ever heard the backing vocal guys on any of the two performances. I know I heard Adam's backing vocals a lot though. They sounded like the CD record because it WAS the CD record... But I could be totally full of it  |

I don't have my FAULT magazine either. Feeling p.o.'d about it. It's sort of reassuring, I guess, that I'm far from alone. Seems like if they don't come by the end of the week we should request our money back en masse. Seriously, I don't know what could have possibly been so hard about hiring a couple of temps to address envelopes and sticking these things in the mail, that three months in we are still waiting. I noticed a few people mentioning the Dark Side thread and wanted to issue a more general invite to visit. I hope that eventually the thread can get a better name and maybe a more permanent home, because it never did turn into a spot for kvetching, quite the opposite in fact. The dark thread is not for everyone, but some Atoppers are enjoying it who needed a comfortable, laid-back spot to exchange ideas off the main thread. The point of the gathering spot as it is evolving, is to give Atop a safe place for ideas that are not really "news," or that are a little too dark or complicated or require too much consideration to fit in the fast-paced, heavily-trafficked daily news. There's no band, they are just musicians helping Adam out during UK promo. It's ok to compare, but it's all empty talk. My feelings towards Adam's band are the same as they are towards his family and friends and house and car and clothes: I like them just because they're Adam's. Some build something of their own onto that initial love, some don't, but the basics is always the same - AFL. |
