As far as a breakthrough hit... Assuming it's a radio hit popular with teens... I live with my sister and niece who is 18. My niece was just telling me that for a birthday party in her college program, she was tasked with making the music playlist. She's as big an Adam fan as I am (she's who I took with me to GNT), so she included all of the "fast" songs on Trespassing on the playlist. She knew that some of her friends liked Adam, but she knew many of them knew WWFM only. She told me that the "fast" songs were a huge hit amongst those at the party -- whose age range was 18--25. The five most popular songs were: 1. Trespassing 2. Cuckoo 3. NCOE 4. Kickin' In 5. ShadyShe said that Trespassing was THE song of the night and the one everyone wanted to hear over and over. It was the song everyone memorized and went home and bought on iTunes, the song everyone then sang to each other, etc. The line that hooked everyone was, "I ain't got no bs in my bag." She said that it became a tag line for everyone at the party. I realize it's only an anecdotal example, but I thought it was interesting how Trespassing was THE song they all loved. ETA: I will also say that again (anecdotal example though it was), NONE of the people at the party knew Adam's cd was out, even the ones who counted themselves his fans. I think RCA needs to find a way to reach that market because it didn't seem to work for at least that particular group of fans. I asked my niece how they find out about music and she said that it's word of mouth, when something goes viral and from tv shows/commercials. Radio really wasn't a big way of finding out about new music for them. I Find this list interesting.. especially where Shady is ranked. I know there are some big lovers of Shady on this board. I certainly didn't "get it" when I first heard it. Trespassing and Kickin in were my favs. Shady was a slow grow because it is honestly, I never heard much if any type of funk growing up. It just sounded alien to me. I think thats also why I don't think this age group would, as a whole, gravitate towards this song at the onset. Now that I have gained familiarity with it, I would almost venture to say it is one of the most brilliant songs on the album. Without this song, I don't think the album would be as strong as it is. Interesting you say that because of what my niece said about that song. She said that the first time it came on, everyone stopped and listened to it with a confused expression on their face. She had to tell them that is was funk because they didn't know what it was. (And I'm not sure that knowing the name of the style was helpful in making them like it.) But by the end of it, they were asking to hear it again. It was a slow grow for them and after the 4th or 5th listen, everyone loved it, but it took that long for them to "get it'. She said the hook for them were the lines: "Come on and take me underground Deep under the street Come on and take me, take me down The freaks like us can meet Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up, turn it waaaaay upDon't stop the beat" The bolded line was the one they all waited for and sang loudly in unison. They all particularly loved the waaaaay up and those of them who had seen Adam in concert said they wanted to hear him sing that live and hoped his voice would hit the ceiling with that line.

When I go to this site, Adam Lambert is listed twice! He's first on the list, and then listed a little further down by Bruno Mars???? I guess he's so good, he has to be on twice. But it's splitting his vote.
