First, let me say (Junie)...that piece of Neruda poem is beautiful!
Then I want to say I wish I could find a post here I read the other day on some thread (I think it was Kay's post?) that said even though she doesn't post much, she silently reads, laughs, nods, etc., i.e. she is still here. Well...me, too. I am STILL so thankful for this place...even though it may appear I've taken my leave, I haven't! I'm just underground for a bit as I continue to sort out my life.
The "crazy train" is still my mode of transportation, and I love the beauty I can see from its windows!
And THIS beauty is the reason I'm still on the train!
I'm still in MO packing my thingses (will be back in Sac before the 14th to see Adam at the Warfield, though!) and when I'm too tired to do physical stuff, I've been reading a lot.
I read an old biography
The Lives of John Lennon and was almost sorry I had, and I just finished
The Heroin Diaries, Nikki Sixx's autobiography, just because I was out of books and it was on my son's bookshelf. Don't know that I'd recommend the book, but his journal entries about the music business (this was the 80's!) are still spot on IMO.
I love almost all music--except heavy metal. NEVER liked it, couldn't even name one Motley Crue song before I read this book (of course, as it turns out, I HAD heard some of their songs.) Anyway, since I knew so little about how they fit in the history of R'nR, I googled Nikki Sixx. LO AND BEHOLD, look what I found!
...from an album review (Sputnik Music, 6/11) of This is Gonna Hurt, talking about lead singer James Michael:
There are times where it is difficult to distinguish his voice from Adam Lambert and Muse's Matt Bellamy. While this is an enormous compliment, it is regretful that it seems that Michael does not attempt to test his range as often as he did on the previous effort...WTF! WhoEVER thought I'd google Nikki Sixx and find an Adam reference!?
...and this Sixx interview on the Grammy red carpet from last year: his thoughts on radio are SO MY OWN!
www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwKCgpGFzQM&feature=fvstLast thought on both books: I'm so sorry Lennon didn't live long enough to get his shit together (seems like he was on the verge of doing so) and I'm so glad Sixx did get the chance, even though I'm still not a metal fan.
Last thought on Atop: THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS BEING HERE! WHO THE HELL ELSE COULD TALK TO ABOUT RANDOM ADAM BANGS?!?! ;D
Love you guys!
ETA: Glittergma, please accept belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY wishes!
I'm so close, yet so far away while I'm back in MO. If I'd been smart and driven my car here, I swear I would drive up and see you!
I know I've missed a ton of birthdays, btw, but I'm always wishing you all happy, happy days in my heart!
ETA2: OMG, I just realized that the pic I posted of Adam is EXACTLY the one I always told myself I'd change my avi for! (head thrown back in same direction, mouth open...) But I just can't. I have a weird sentimental attachment to that old pic!
I KNOW! I'll use the new one as my twitter avi!
Later, guys and dolls!
