vivlite and annala, Happy Winter Solstice to you too! And to all a good night. I wish sometimes that New Year's Eve was the night of the winter solstice. To me New Year's has always been one of the most meaningless of all the holidays. What exactly are we celebrating? It just seems like a random day to go get drunk. It would be cool to do it on the winter solstice instead. I like the sun so I'm glad we're heading back in the right direction. I am excited too, annala, because after today I have off from work until Jan. 2. (I was able to carry my old vacation hours over to my new job without any break -- yay.) Time for reflection and renewal for sure. For all the nature lovers: A cheetah running in slow motion. Beauty and perfection.

I wanted to have that most spectacular picture posted for you all to 'wake' up to on the Solstice...
I, too, don't post much. Annala..I so enjoyed reading yours! The ebb and flows, that minute second when the universe takes a hint of a breath before moving forward once again. The renewal of life significance of Turtle Rock for the Ohlones.
This year especially, 2012, has symbolic references and meanings for many. Some of of fear. The world is ending. What I hoped to bring is my thought that as with the tides, there is never an end, only new beginnings. It is the natural cycle..with that minute breath in between.
I do believe that this time IS one of infinite possibilities. That thoughts create and we are on this earth at a time of change that will ask from us..what do we want? How to we wish to walk on this magnificent planet? Can we take time to care for ourselves without thinking we are being selfish? If I cannot hold joy, how can I give or receive it?
The Solstice to me is the deepest of sleeps..the hibernation that the planet naturally understands. As the holidays approach, with the busy activities and stresses some experience, today is a day to take that breath, enjoy the moment. It is the breath between the old and the new.
Happy Solstice to everyone!

Thanks, Juniemoon!I think this music captures the lightness of the new..very appropriate for Solstice! (I did have a problem getting past my picture of Adam dancing to this wearing a leotard, tho...  )

The Eve of the Winter Solstice...my wishes to all of you for new beginnings and limitless possibilities..
Thank you for this beautiful image, vivlite. I've forwarded it to others as well. I've been observing the Winter Solstice for more than 20 years now and midst the flurry and stress, it is my special haven.
As the shortest day approaches, just a glimmer of light is enough to sustain hope. When the brightness returns, may you find yourself in a warm circle of shining promise.
Happy Solstice to you all.

And your poem as well, Satisfied! It sums up my feelings about the Solstice. It was so quiet where I live in the country last night. I opened the blinds in the bedroom and looked outside to watch the subtle light against the pines. It felt suffocating somehow and I had to open the window to let the winter breeze flow through the room. A clearing of sorts ushering in the new. And I realize I have no sense of time anymore as I have had to modify my posts about the Solstice to actually be referring to the correct day...I don't know how many of you live in a very rural setting, but here, time ceases to exist. It's kind of tweaky until you get used to 'no time'...especially if you are interfacing with the world in any way. But I love exploring being instead of doing all the time and I feel very blessed to have been given this opportunity to experience time's ability to expand and contract consciously. I'm not much of a philosopher, so I don't post much but I do appreciate what I read. But energetic and esoteric realms are where I reside. Plus a hefty dose of just plain goofy to keep both feet on the ground.. ;D
