Alison, I know it's technically OT but tell us about your juice cleanse sometime. ;D The plan was to complete a 10 day cleanse--only fruit/veggie juice and water. I gave up coffee and tea a few days before to minimize the withdrawal during the juicing phase. My 2 sisters and my husband were doing it with me. My husband and I lasted almost 4 1/2 days-- we were done in by our favorite Mexican restaurant (it was the best meal of my life). One of my sisters actually completed the full 10 days. I lost 5 lbs and my husband lost 13lbs. The first 2 days of the fast was the worst--I was lethargic and grouchy and seriously wanted to chew on something. During 3rd and 4th days I became energetic and felt really good. I wasn't hungry, but missed eating. I probably could have gone a little longer, but felt left out when my husband ate a salad for lunch on the 4th day--that night was the last. When we began eating again I noticed that my taste buds had been reset. I didn't want sugar and used far less salt. We have regressed a little lately, but plan on doing a 3-4 day cleanse every couple months. Will probably start in August. The inspiration was the documentary "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead." You can watch it for free on the website www.fatsickandnearlydead.com -- it is inspiring and entertaining. When we do our next fast I'll let you guys know--in case anyone is interested in trying.

I'm always checking in at this thread to read - always. I love it. And, mika, I'm another one who just really likes knowing that you're there in London, seeing these concerts, and on your own travels and adventures, etc. I'm so glad you're sharing some of those experiences here. For days now I've been almost posting a part of Tennyson's "Ulysses," but I haven't - thought maybe he/it might be considered trite or corny, I don't know. But it's a poem I've always already liked anyway, and Queenbert brought it to my mind. Part of what I like about it is that it gives me an image of aging I like - Ulysses is still bold, but dignified and "kinda deep." But still bold! and up for adventure! Reading Brian May's amazing, moving, golden, wonderful praise of Adam today, and about how he feels inspired to be working with him - well, that made me decide to just throw it out here. (And, Brian May - what an age-appropriate sex symbol he is for me! - still bold AND astrophysically deep And he protects badgers!!!) Anyway, Brian today: "The band, as it is now, seems suddenly to have switched into a higher gear - more confident, having more fun … and stepping into new territory … an amazing thought at this stage in our lives and in our careers … " Tennyson, sometime or other ages ago ("Ulysses" speaking): "How dull it is to pause, to make an end, To rust unburnished, not to shine in use! As though to breathe were life. Life piled on life Were all too little, and of one to me Little remains: but every hour is saved From that eternal silence, something more, A bringer of new things." And, later in the poem: "My mariners, Souls that have toiled, and wrought, and thought with me— . . . . —you and I are old; Old age hath yet his honour and his toil; Death closes all: but something ere the end, Some work of noble note, may yet be done, Not unbecoming men that strove with Gods. The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks: The long day wanes: the slow moon climbs: the deep Moans round with many voices. Come, my friends, 'Tis not too late to seek a newer world." Junie, Alison, and Bridget (and all those ships at sea who know who you are ) - Thank you for putting out a wave. Aggravated by outside factors, the daily thread has been getting me down given that my force field is currently in slight disrepair. 'I have of late lost all my mirth' (Always a bad sign when anyone starts quoting Hamlet ) Seemed the practical thing as an interim step is to stop reading - but would miss so many people. And I like the pics. So I was hoping there was still a small pool of refuge here - and there is. Thank you. Junie - Yes, yes re: the narrowest of interpretations of success. Sure, I want everything to be a homerun, but Adam's doing fine - so much better than fine in fact. I keep thinking of a scene in 'Searching for Bobby Fischer' when Joe Mantegna is telling the teacher (I think) how his son is better at chess than either of them will ever be at anything - ever. Adam triumphed over the odds against him making it out of that studio apt and the chorus - his extraordinary talent has been recognized by legends past and present who know what the hell they're talking about. He's more than financially secure; his parents are young and healthy; he is beautiful; he has couture; he is adored by virtually everyone he meets - just for being himself; and he's in love with a beautiful boy who loves him back. I can stress w/the best over specific issues but c'mon... Alison - You did well! I fell off a 5 day juice fast (purchased from a local place) on day 3. I thought I could drink almost anything but some of the green ones were sooo vile. But you've inspired me to try again. (I may need to be locked in a room for 5 days though...) Bridget - Beautiful, beautiful and so appropriate - Ulysses is one of the greatest poems in the English language. 'one equal temper of heroic hearts' Post concert I will report in - I've been taking random thought notes at the cafe so... you've been warned :

Mika, Junie, and all fellow Moon Gardeners - I'm still here too - I check in every day.
I love your most recent post, Mika, and please let us know your impressions of this last Queenbert event. For those of us who have had to experience these concerts vicariously from our computers, you have brought us a real sense of what it was like to really be there - the sheer joy of the performances; Adam's unbounded energy, playfulness and chutzpah; the bonding of Adam with Brian and Roger bringing new life to these legendary rockers; and the audience reception during all these shows.
I will be at Costa Mesa next week as Adam gets back into the groove of promoting his own stuff. My LA son and I will be bringing my nephew as our guest, and we'll see if he will get "Adamized" like we are.
On other topics, I can't quote poetry as readily as some of the rest of you, but I do like to read. Right now I'm reading "My Antonia" by Willa Cather, one of my favorite American authors. I always like reading books that give a sense of place.
As far as juice diets. haven't tried that (partially because of my age, I guess), but I do most of my produce shopping at farmers markets and local fruit/vegetable stands. I have three teen-age grandkids living with me so having good nutrious food in the house at all times is important. My granddaughter is vegetarian so I often take her with me when food shopping. Have any of you tried quinoa?? We are sold on it. I'll make a batch of it which can be eaten for breakfast, lunch, supper or whenever.
Anyway - rambling again - but looking forward to your next post, Mika, here in the Moon Garden.

Yay, peeps in the Moon Garden tonight. bridget, thanks SO MUCH for bringing over Ulysses. How well that classic expresses the courage of old heroes; how perfect for Brian and Roger. (and I would SO run off with Brian.) That poem was actually one of my first real exposures to poetry when Ted Kennedy nearly stampeded the 1980 Democratic Convention with it. Not endorsing the man, but what a symphony of words. I went to the library and found the whole poem and read it all summer. Brian and Roger were much younger than I am now, Another One Bites the Dust was topping the charts, and Adam wasn't even born!

Junie...wouldn't we all run off with Brian hahaha....Roger has his charms too, and they both clearly care for and about Adam. No wonder Adam sings and dances with such abandon on that stage...these shows have been such a balm to the worries and frustration of watching the resistance of radio to Trespassing. So many of the 'old guard' truly talented musicians respect and admire Adam yet these suits and under talented radio jocks toss him off like so much replaceable flotsam... I truly do not understand it....
enough negative ranting....or I will be banished to the Dark Thread :-)
Adam has spoken often of how much he is learning by working with Roger and Brian....I wonder what he would say are the most important lessons he is getting? I would love to see them...Brian especially...work on writing some songs with Adam. It would be a good thing for him to see how writing happened before the advent of the 'group collaborating' that has become the norm.
I wonder if he will approach his current band differently after this time. I have often wondered if Adam ever considered the 'group' approach to music rather than the 'solo' performer with paid sessional musicians subject to change season by season. He seems to really treasure consistency and loyalty so why choose this way of performing?.... Part of what is making this Queen gig so amazing is the 'groupness' of the performances. As they gel and become more familiar with each other, and trusting of each other, the joy and love seems to grow and grow....it will be interesting to see if that changes Adam's approach to performing.
I really believe there will be some very interesting times ahead.

mszue, I don't know if you are reacting in part to my reply to your Adam as a group instead of Adam as a single. If so, please accept my apologies. I probably come across as gruff when I'm really just trying to be part of the conversation.
As for the everything must be merry and bright push on the main thread. I'm quite willing to rebel against that too. I came to Atop for the thinking, not the squeeing. But I don't follow the threads, I do the last 50 posts so lol, everything light, dark, poetic all runs together on my screen.

Aww...thanks Jablea...as you can see, I deleted my 'rant' before your post came through...I did not want to make this thread a place of negative rants and that essentially was what I was guilty of. I seriously do not remember exactly what and who's post put me over the edge but -- it doesn't take that much to get a reaction from me...ask any of my RL friends...I am always the butt of teasing because I give such good 'face' back..hahaha...took me years to realize the constant in all that was me...not them...so I had to be the catalyst! still....silencing in any of its manifestations is my very biggest bugaboo :

I feel safe here... Mika OMG you write so eloquently. I loved what you had to say about Adam. I think he is getting a break from the constant drum of the money machine.. how much did the coffers hold today, what are the numbers, numbers, numbers, will there be another single,single,single.. Good god enough already,Let Adam do what he does best SING. The concerts are a sheer, out of this world ,chemistry and blending of three incredible talents......Possibly a once in the lifetime experience.Who knows where life will take Brian,Roger or Adam.We are so lucky to be part of this musical historical coming together.
