Some good stuff here today.
First of all, I want to thank you Alison for posting the podcast on birds about how their feathers served first as insulation, and then later with flight. I'm particularly fascinated by bird migration - what triggers it and how birds are driven to get to their destinations over the course of 100's and sometimes 1000's of miles. By tracking bird banding, I've discovered and reported on geese orginating in Nunavut (above the Arctic Circle) to spend their winters in California's Central Valley. One bird closer to home for me is a hybrid duck that has been spending the last 6 winters on a small non-descript percolation pond. It shows up in November and leaves in March; however, I don't know where it came from or where it goes. I know it's the same duck because it is so striking in its appearance. It's a cross between a Barrow's Goldeneye and a Common Goldeneye - if you have a bird book, you can look it up; otherwise you can Google it. Anyway, when this duck shows up, I always report it to our birding hotline as the "hybrid goldeneye" as a way of tracking the longivity of this unusual duck. However, one birding friend knows that I've named the duck "Adam" - so when he shows up I always alert my friend first "Adam's back!" When I see him, I always think of Adam singing "My Conviction" about "gaudy plumage" and "fine feathers", and if I'm alone I'll sing it softly to myself. If he shows up again this winter, I'll post a picture here.
Also, Junie, your video of the stunt bicylist in San Francisco was fun to watch as I recognized most of the landmarks of this beautiful city by the Bay.
And Sugaree, I loved the bluegrass jam session that you posted. Music performed with heart and soul and joy is so much better than anything that is performed strictly for numbers rating and charting. And yes, I knew Steve Martin was a great banjo player - but so good to watch that.
Thanks to all of you!

Drive-by post: Look who I just found in my backyard! The not-so-little fella was all dressed up for Trespassing, so I figured he might like it in our Moon Garden. Just thought I'd drop him off here. eta: He's clearly a Glambert!

Hi guys!
Junie, I can't believe you left me out, I know Ricky Scaggs! Guess you didn't know I am married to a cowboy and have listened to NOTHING BUT country music for the last 30 years.
Gelly, you should post here if you want to, your english is great, and we would love to hear anything you have to say. The Moon Garden is for all thoughts, aspirations, and ideas relating to Adam
Momtomany - you are so great with words, like I said, your words are like poetry, keep it coming.
To everyone here - I am planning for my trip to Scotland/England, so I will be absent from the board for a while, but I will check in when I can, and I love all the wonderful stuff on this thread.

Mahalia, have a GREAT trip! I am so "jelly." Mwp, that is SOME grasshopper! OMG. I haven't seen one of those at our house, but we are overrun with click bugs. I am liking the radio edit of Trespassing. I admit, though, that I find myself resenting RCA for (apparently) feeling the need to gussy it up. Since the first rumored single was cancelled last October, I've felt they just didn't get or trust Adam's music. ... Oh well -- it's a great song and I like the new version just as much any I've heard, and let's hope it climbs the charts like King Kong on a skyscraper and we can just move on from this whole frustrating period. Wouldn't that be nice? Do any of you guys like illustrator Keri Smith? I just found out about her recently. She has made these journals with prompts that encourage all sorts of creativity and improvisational thinking. I haven't bought one yet but they sound really fun. I went and looked at her website this morning ( www.kerismith.com/) and saw her illustration of the day -- seemed perfect:

"I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's and his hair was perfect" ;D I don't know if anyone posted or was interested but I looked up the video of the suffragettes that was used in the Trespassing fan video that was posted a couple of days ago. This was interesting, especially as something aimed at students. The making of the video was also great. Talented young people. (I really liked the original 'Bad Romance' video so I appreciated seeing how they used the same visuals & music to do this.)

winter, I've been overwhelmed by the number of videos and not watched many. The Trespassing video and the Bad Romance one on suffrage and human rights were FANTASTIC! The Trespassing one makes the song take on a whole new, deeper meaning. Thanks for calling it out!
A few years ago, I worked on a web project about women's suffrage in Texas and learned so much, especially about how suffrage came out of the tremendous technological changes that raised the status of women. The type of abuse heaped on the women was not unlike the abuse heaped on Glamberts today, actually. They were old; ugly; should stay at home and know their place. Suffrage would cause "feminism, sex antagonism, socialism, anarchy and Mormonism."
Behind all the rhetoric were the people who benefited from the political system remaining as it was: the liquor industry, planters, textile factory owners, railroad magnates, and political machine bosses. Eventually, though, the women took over mainstream thought -- just as we are seeing today with gay people. Amazing.
I LOVED Adam's look(s) at NY Fashion Week! I love how Adam changes up his look all the time. Why change so often? Why NOT?! That's what we're here for. (I say, not having changed my look since 8th grade. LOL.)
It was so timely, someone shared this video with me today. It is a photo project tracking one man and how his appearance changed over five years:
I would love to see a video like this of Adam. Would love to know what mszue and our other "presentation" fans think of this. It is interesting to see how people and travels and other things from the man's life flash by as well, and wonder about how his appearance, from wild to conservative, affected his identity and experiences during the past five years. This is something Adam plays with all the time!

I look forward to the Kennedy Center Honors every year and have thought of Adam performing at the ceremony. Today, I saw an article that Dustin Hoffman would be honored and I checked out the musical honoree thinking it wouldn't be anyone Adam could reasonably be selected to honor w/performance, but if I read correctly it's Led Zep! ( ETA: marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2012/09/12/dustin-hoffman-letterman-to-receive-kennedy-center-honors/ ) I realize that it's highly unlikely that they would just someone as relatively new as Adam but the performers are often young artists in the tradition of the honoree so... a person can dream, right??
