Thanks all....I knew I would not be beaten up on....haha...Mika...you missed out on a hell of a party which really did give me a headache!! I do that periodically...gets all my anime juices going....
I can't get into it fully this am as I have to get into 'Raging Grannie' garb to go protest the proposed pipeline from the Athabasca tarsands to BC coastline and Chinese tankers.....
One of the outcomes of education is that while the paid positions are few and far between [and usually distributed to 'friends' and 'family'] there are lots of call for your talents in the 'no pay' zone. I spent yesterday writing up press releases and doing event planning for the Raging Grannies, then writing up minutes up for my choral group, planning and organizing make-up and hair for a theatre group, and then trying to convince another person that I would strongly support her if she would donate her extensive event planning to take on the Concert Producer role that I have no more time for [she is trying in vain to get a paid job in this realm].....sigh...this is the education that nobody values or wants to pay for.
I was just replying to a message from Aleksandrakv and am posting a short part of that reply. We were speaking of the education and her surprise that we have some of the same issues here that she has in her country. "The education system itself is a victim of cut-backs and a general devaluing of all liberal arts. Science and Business reign supreme.... Ageism is very alive and well but even worse, the patriarchal system is pushing back and there is a concentrated will to push women back into the home. Organized religion is very implicated in this push...but it is not them alone. When resources are scarce [jobs and money], those that have these resources do everything in their power to keep them for themselves, and those in their image. To be older and female are not good things, but with education there is a chance. When education is belittled and denigrated, any advantages open to women are severely curtailed. For me....it is folly and false consciousness in the extreme for women, especially older women, to 'go along' with the anti elitism that is infecting our western society."
I would love to have an extended conversation in this arena as I think it is a really important one....and it is not a big stretch to find ways for it to relate to Adam and the hurdles he is facing...Just as the GLBT community has learned there is strength in numbers and are publicizing their struggles, so must women dive into the fray. Adam is right...there is a civil rights movement going on. But we are too complacent also...Too many thought the fight was over with suffrage and the pill...but hey, the ERA never did pass....surely that was a hint for American women??? How is that not visible?
Gotta get dressed and out of here....haha...

To reference my rant of late on the denigration if education and elevation of ignorance. Billie Joe's rant was completely understandable and forgivable.....but LAUDABLE?? what is laudable about someone who's vocabulary seems to be stuck on 'fuck'....that is fine once or twice in frustration but seriously indicates a lack of intellect, at the very least. This is a grown, 40 year old man who cannot control his impulses and has not got the brains to speak in cohesive sentences.....sorry....do not get why that deserves praise.
Hey...I have ranted my share, as have we all, but I do not expect a pat on the back for it....that is my concern. And this is not a factor of my age...I was far more 'polite' and 'restrained when I was younger...I think I was well over 40 before the word 'fuck' ever left my lips...familiarity breeds contempt as the saying goes...

And this is not a factor of my age...I was far more 'polite' and 'restrained when I was younger...I think I was well over 40 before the word 'fuck' ever left my lips...familiarity breeds contempt as the saying goes... I was toying with spamming the thread. (My work travel was interrupted postponed within an hour of departure so I'm in limbo til... so yay). MzSue - Imma disagree with you here. I don't think there's anything to forgive - and in this case I thought the form of communication fit the occasion. He would have looked silly up there giving a 'wow our time got cut and that seems inappropriate - very inappropriate'. I'm a longtime Green Day fan and particularly a fan of BJA because of how he's handled his career. Music has been his whole life since he was a kid and imo he's deserves a huge amount of credit for continuing to pursue and push down creative avenues when being told no and trashed (by the sorta neo punk scene and hipsters) as a sell out early on for going less thrashy when he out grew it. He worked tirelessly to bring GD back to forefront but without compromising on music. Then later he was told rock music was (dead)-- familiar? And he wrote a brilliant concept album when those were considered dead or non commercially viable too. And then he turned it into a musical and was called a sell out again - esp when he took on a role for a week or so. Now he's doing another new thing (album releases). I realize this is not to your point but it is to my response that BJA has proved over the years he is not inarticulate through his work and interviews. This was a special occasion that I think actually called for a whole lot of fuck yous (and you may not have noticed but I'm never on the 'lets all say fuck cause it's shocking' train). Lately I feel that a lot of disrespect is allowed to go by and that people don't respond to civil approaches. In this case (as I don't have the facts) the organizers appear to have screwed GD -- no amount of back stage reproach would have made an impression. And frankly I'm going to treasure that Justin Bieber quote forever. (And I even like Usher) I'm against the everyday constant use of profanity - esp fuck - because it lessens the impact when you really want to break out a NFW speech. So, yeah, you go Billie Joe! It's rock n roll - every once in a while you need to say what the actual fuck and a guitar needs to get broken in anger instead of as stagecraft. ;D ETA: Life moves pretty fast... (I'm having an eighties theme weekend

Hmmmm ... war on women, war on men, war on boys, war on girls, war on gays, war on the church ... class war ... everyone I know and talk to seems to feel they are on the receiving end of a war. Everyone. There is something larger happening here than we have captured, something that I still only dim grasp for a few seconds and then it is gone. Society is changing and everyone feels under a siege.

Okay, okay - I've finally accepted that I'm never going to be able to decide on my 'Essential Adam Message' for future Galactic Overlords as I keep getting lost in all the wonderful photos - which one to pick? editorial? my beloved club kid pics? my own personal beanie!Adam? laughing Adam? contemplative? rock god> It was creating a sort of endless do loop. So - I picked one of my favorites that is also in honor of our Moon Garden goddess Jamie - rl keeps her away but I believe she checks in on us. Video: True it's concert vid that has not found a wide following (sniff) and I've harped on about it before so no surprise. But I have a special place in my heart for Adam's DTRH from Rock My Town. If you hang in there, esp just past two min mark or so, he increasingly gives such a delightfully uninhibited yet rather cabaret all out performance of one of my fave Adam songs. I would hire him for a movie based on this vid alone. Who are you? www.youtube.com/watch?v=r655EPwvlakSong: Fever. Just cause it always makes my playlists, always makes me smile. And he sang the hell out of it. Shoulda been a hit single in any normal universe. I Heart Performance has him give an almost Bowie-esque biting of lyrics at one point - and the last GNT performance at Nokia also great. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN-7WPu2VlU(And MWP on your list - no Clash? Really? At least BigAudioDynamite's Rush? )

Oh mika...you are right again! How do you do that? haha. I don't know much about BJ and GreenDay and was just reacting to the chorus of 'yeah!s ' from the comment section and the main thread, and my rant was in the context of my other ongoing rant on the glorification of the profane over the sublime. my bad not to do due diligence and you are right to call me on it.
Junie...when you put it that way, I agree...there is something larger happening here that warrants some serious examination. Interesting that Adam's new tat is that Music soothes the savage beast.... as usual, he is at the forefront....

Interesting that Adam's new tat is that Music soothes the savage beast.... as usual, he is at the forefront.... I really don't know how it will all shake out - maybe Billie Joe will regret losing his temper - he's getting bad press from it. (Amusingly a lot is of the 'tut tut' variety from people claiming to be former punk fans and bemoaning poor behavior : And intellectually I regret Bieber got thrown out there - teen idols are easy targets. (Though to be frank, he's been on my list since that radio station was having all the artists (including Adam) do a line from 'A Visit From St Nicholas' and Bieber threw the book on the floor and wouldn't do his because it was for 'kids' (or something). The poor behavior I could have looked past given his teenage-ness but throwing a book on the floor? Never! That sparked Victorian levels of outrage. (now I have a few thoughts about American Idol I'd like to share... where are my notes?? 8-)) ETA: It's officially fall/autumn! Let us rejoice and be glad the long summer is over (for many of us at least).
