popdust.com/slideshow/popdust-mid-year-awards-carly-rae-jepsen-adam-lambert/Ah, it feels like just yesterday that it was still 2011, with Adele at the top of the charts, Drake and Pitbull showing up on pretty much every song, and Rick Ross continually pushing his album release date back. OK, that all feels like yesterday because it’s still happening, but nonetheless, we’re nearly halfway through 2012, and at least a handful of things have happened that didn’t already happen in 2011, we promise. From Tyga to Tupac, from Carly Rae to Kim and ‘Ye, here are the winners, and losers, of the Popdust Mid-Year Awards, 2012 edition—-with a couple picks for our esteemed honorees themselves. popdust.com/slideshow/popdust-mid-year-awards-carly-rae-jepsen-adam-lambert/best-album-adam-lambert-trespassing/PIC #2 In a slow first half of 2012, it was Lambert's Trespassing that stood out as the most consistent, exciting album, a badass collection of pop tunes that deserves the undivided attention even of non-Glamberts. Boasting top production from the likes of Lester Mendez, Dr. Luke, and Pharrell (!!!), the album also features some of Adam's strongest vocal and songwriting work, from the break-the-door-down yelp of the title track to the ecstatic falsetto of "Kickin' In" to the power-ballad wail of "Outlaws of Love." Trespassing finally showcases a Lambert as in control of his own sound and identity as any major pop star out there, with fantastic results. —A.U. Runners-Up: One Direction, Up All Night, Fun., Some Nights, Sleigh Bells, Reign of Terror Adam Lambert's Favorite Album of the Year "Scissor Sisters, Magic Hour. I've heard a couple of tracks online and it seems like it's going to be a really exciting album. They never disappoint with their studio albums or live performances. They are always so high energy. I'm a huge fan."

Does anyone remember if this PopDust mid-year award thing is a voting thing or did PopDust choose the winners?

Just pondering the many raves about the album yet lack of radio play. My local HAC station ended up playing BTIKM about 4 times daily. During that whole single "era," they were also playing WWFM and IIHY regularly, mostly WWFM. Now they play NCOE about once per day and maybe WWFM. There must have been some incentive to spinning his old songs before. Puzzling. ETA: plus, my requests for NCOE haven't been granted except for once, whereas the almost always played BTIKM if I requested. I'm not a rabid requestor.

Thanks for the encouragement yesterday (Hoppers and others--btw, Hoppers, so sorry for your loss).
I did all my voting today. Also, I've been thinking about things and believe that we are maybe just too impatient. Unless you're a big name, it does take a while for songs to move and get played. I will keep voting and requesting, as everyone suggests. Also, I think we need to realize that this album is going to be out and selling for a long time--and it is a great album. If Adam gets some exposure through any number of avenues, including another single [or even NCOE] that really hits, the album could take off again in waves throughout the year. A long view is surely helpful at some point. Look at Maroon 5's "Hands All Over"; it got huge again after they re-released with "Moves Like Jagger" added, almost a year after it was initially released, when Adam Levine's profile was higher due to the Voice. Not that I think Trespassing will need to add anything, but the long-term prospects are still great for this album because the songs are that good.
So, I will keep requesting, voting, and being zen about this album's success; I think Adam will be fine and will be here to entertain us for a long, long time to come.
Thanks for all the support.
