Talon,SInce IDK if you read the main thread I want to (belatedly) wish you Happy 4th! and THANK YOU for all the work you are doing here!!! I am in total awe! I think you should somehow publish your work! Maybe create a site of your own and have it all preserved there... what a treasure! Thanks Nica! I do venture in now and again to the main thread but I appreciate you coming down here :D I hope your holiday went well as well! Talon, I can't find Innuendo on the list of songs on soon to be released Freddie Tribute concert DVD/Blu-Ray. Do you have any idea why it's not included? Unfortunately it's never been released reportedly because Robert Plant was unhappy with his performance of the track and thus refused to allow it to be released. It's not his best performance but I still think it's worthy of a listen especially as it's the only time it's been done!

I'm Going Slightly Mad
Written by Freddie Mercury
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, keyboards, piano, drum programming Brian May - guitars, backing vocals John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums, drum programming
-Issued as a single backed with ‘The Hitman’ and ‘Lost Opportunity’ in March 1991 in the UK (where it hit #22). Issued as a single backed with ‘The Hitman’ in March 1991 in Australia (where it did not chart), France, Germany, The Netherlands (where it hit #13), Hong Kong (where it hit #1) and Italy.
- This was Freddie harkening back towards his vaudeville days.
- This was not attempted live.
QUOTES: "I wanted to make the video as memorable as possible. I've always wanted to costar in a video with a gorilla and a group of penguins. A little bit of Queen madness." - Freddie Mercury - 1991
"That was very much a Freddie track and you tend to want to give the author his head. Even though we said that everything is by Queen, there was still somebody who was basically the original author and everyone else worked on it. It was a good idea as it produced a lot of input, but in the end it was Freddie's baby so it was natural that he would want to get certain things right." - Brian May - October 1994 - Guitarist Magazine
"When Freddie penned the song ‘I’m Going Slightly Mad,’ it was after another through-the-night-session with Peter Straker. Freddie explained he had the phrase I’m going slightly mad on his brain and told Peter what sort of thing he wanted to say in the song. The inspiration for it was the master of camp one-liners, Noel Coward. Freddie set about with Peter trying to come up with a succession of goofy lyrics, each funnier than the last. He screamed when they came up with things like ‘I’m knitting with only one needle’ and ‘I’m driving only three wheels these days.’ But the masterstroke was ‘I think I’m a banana tree.’ Once that came out there was no stopping Freddie and Straker – they were then in full flow. I went to bed to fall asleep listening to their laughter wafting upstairs.” – Jim Hutton
ALTERNATE RELEASED PERFORMANCES:
TOTALLY BONKERS (FAN CLUB MESSAGE)
- NOT essential but funny. Recorded as a message for the fan club convention with alternate lyrics.
MAD MIX
- ESSENTIAL! - This was reportedly from an earlier master and some things were eventually toned down, but I thought this version to be even funnier than the finished version and is my favorite version now.
VINYL EDIT
- NOT Essential, just a slight edit.
GREATEST HITS II EDIT NO YT VID - NOT essential, another slight edit.
PERSONAL NOTES: - This is just a great song. Quirky, funny, and amazing that a man in Freddie's condition can be so humorous. Great video as well. One of my favs from the band.
Next? Brian rushes Headlong!

Headlong
Written by: Brian May
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals Brian May - guitars, backing vocals, piano, keyboards, drum programming John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums, backing vocals
- Issued as a single backed with ‘Under Pressure’ in January 1991 in the US (where it did not chart although it did hit #3 on the US Rock charts). It was issued as a single backed with ‘All God’s People’ and ‘Mad The Swine’ in May 1991 in the UK (where it hit #14). Issued as a single backed with ‘All God’s People’ and ‘Mad The Swine’ in May 1991 in Germany. Issued as a single backed with ‘All God’s People’ in May 1991 Australia (where it hit #20), Canada, Germany, The Netherlands (where it did not chart), and Philippines. Issued as a single backed with ‘The Hitman’ in May 1991 in France. Also issued as a single backed with ‘The Hitman’ and ‘Lost Opportunity’ in May 1991 in The Netherlands (separate from above The Netherlands release). Issued as a single backed with ‘Mad The Swine’ and ‘Lost Opportunity’ in May 1991 in Japan (where it did not chart).
Brian played it on his solo tours and a live version was released on Live At The Brixton Academy.
QUOTES
"I was in the studio for a couple of days to get some things out of my system. I thought that maybe I'd be left with a solo album, maybe with a Queen album, I just didn't know and I came up with 'Headlong' and 'I Can't Live With You' - the guys liked them." - Brian May - 1991
"'Headlong' came from me, at our studio in Montreux, a home recording studio for us that's very state-of-the-art, lovely for creating. The ideas came in a couple of days. At first I thought about it as a song for my solo album (Back to the Light) but, as always, the band is the best vehicle. As soon as I heard Freddie sing it, I said, 'That's it!' Sometimes it's painful to give the baby away, but what you gain is much more. It became a Queen song." - Brian May - 1991
ALTERNATE RELEASED VERSIONS
RADIO EDIT
- NOT ESSENTIAL - Edits some of the instrumental bits out
GREATEST HITS II EDIT
- NOT ESSENTIAL - Slight edit at the end of the track
VIDEO VERSION
- NOT ESSENTIAL - A bit of extra guitar
CHR EDIT
- NOT ESSENTIAL - Released in Canada aimed to some of the softer rock channel, this edit takes out a lot of Brian's guitar work.
EMBRYO WITH GUIDE VOCAL
- ESSENTIAL - Officially released on the 2011 remaster bonus EP, this is a nice demo with Brian on lead vocals to show Freddie where it's heading. Great version. Nice alternative.
OFFICIALLY RELEASED LIVE VERSION
BRIAN MAY LIVE AT BRIXTON ACADEMY 1993
- ESSENTIAL - Brian does an awesome job on his solo tour!
UNRELEASED VERSIONS
DEMO
- ESSENTIAL - Demo with Brian and Freddie sharing vocals. It's close to the Embryo Version but with Freddie singing on top.
DEMO #2 NO YT VID - NOT ESSENTIAL - Pretty close to Embryo.
UNRELEASED LIVE VERSIONS
BRIAN MAY - LIVE IN BARCELONA 1993
- This one contains the end of one of Brian's solo songs, Love Token
PERSONAL NOTES: A LOT of Queen fans love this track. To be honest, I do like it, but I'm always bewildered at how beloved it is. To me it's a fun rock song though so I don't question it too much! Next? I Can't Live With You

I Can't Live With YouWritten by Brian May Musicians: Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals Brian May - guitars, keyboards, drum programming, backing vocals John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - backing vocals David Richards - keyboard programming - Another song initially considered for Brian's solo album, this one ended up being a bit tough. Brian never got Roger's live drums to sound like he wanted so he ended up using the programmed drums he had initially used for the demo. - Usually I say this in the later fields but I will say it now - the Rocks Retake (see below) is SO much better... - Never tried live - surprisingly. I thought Brian would have tried it on one of his solo tours. - Reportedly there is a demo in the vaults with Roger doing a guide vocal...well he wasn't drumming "For some reason, 'I Can't Live With You' was almost impossible to mix. It was one of those things where you put all the faders up and it sounds pretty good, and you think, 'We'll work on this for a couple of hours.' Then it gets worse and worse and worse. We kept going back to the rough mix. It's got an atmosphere to it. I think it sounds so special because we kept a lot of the demo stuff on it. Usually it all gets replaced." - Brian May - August 1991 - Guitar World "As time goes by I find I'm more concerned with the lyrics than ever. A lot of people say you can only create when you're in pain. But when I was really in pain, I couldn't create anything. I couldn't even get out of bed. When you're climbing out and beginning to get things in the right boxes again, that's when you can put it into music. There's quite a bit of that sort of thing on this album. There's some in 'I Can't Live With You'; it's very personal, but I tried not to make it autobiographical because that narrows things too much. I tried to express it in a form that everyone can relate to." - Brian May - August 1991 - Guitar World "I was in the studio for a couple of days to get some things out of my system. I thought maybe I’d be left with a solo album, maybe a Queen album – I just didn’t know – and I came up with ‘Headlong’ and ‘I Can’t Live With You,’ and the guys liked them” – Brian May MALOUF MIX- NOT ESSENTIAL but a nice remix - some phasing on Freddie's vocals and tweaking of the keyboards. MALOUF EDITNO YT - NOT ESSENTIAL - slight edit ROCKS RETAKE- ESSENTIAL!!! - Awesome version that was released a few years later on the compilation, Queen Rocks. This one takes the inital track and adds Roger's live drums to it and Brian got it to work to his satisfaction. He then added a few more guitars on top. The result turns the song from a decent pop rock song to an awesome energy driven rock number. MUCH better than the original and I like the original! PERSONAL NOTES: A great pop rock song that is fun to singalong to. Nice fun track. NEXT? Freddie's beautiful Don't Try So Hard

A quick note before I move on to the next track. On twitter Brian has stated that Roger has completed his new solo album and will be releasing it in Septemberish Brian and Roger are meeting today about a new Queen release! Most likely from my sources it will be a compilation of ballads from the band with a new track (finished from a vault track with Freddie!) - hopefully crossing my fingers it's (Let Me In) Your Heart Again!

Don't Try So Hard
Written by Freddie Mercury
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, keyboards Brian May - guitars John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums
- Reportedly a Freddie track although initial rumors stated John. But most believe that those rumors were started because John had no clear cut songs on the album. David Richards recently revealed that it was Freddie with some help from Brian.
- A clear falsetto piece with some dramatic vocals and guitars.
- Never tried live.
ALTERNATE RELEASED VERSION
VINYL EDIT
- NOT essential - cuts the last 10 seconds or so.
UNRELEASED VERSION
DEMO
- NOT essential but nice. - Not a ton of differences but still a nice take.
PERSONAL NOTES: - BEAUTIFUL SONG! This is a really underrated gem by the band. It is one of my favorite latter years Queen songs. Such great sentiment and a beautiful vocal.
NEXT? Roger rocks a great driving tune...Ride The Wild Wind

Ride The Wild Wind
Written by: Roger Taylor
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead vocals, keyboards Roger Taylor - lead vocals, drums, programming, keyboards Brian May - guitars John Deacon - bass guitar
- Played live by Roger during his 1994-5 tour with a live performance featuring as the B-Side to ‘Happiness’.
ALTERNATIVE RELEASED VERSION
EARLY VERSION WITH GUIDE VOCAL
- ESSENTIAL - Features Roger on vocals and it really suits his voice well.
ROGER TAYLOR - LIVE IN 1994
- ESSENTIAL - I love Rog's live version!
UNRELEASED VERSION
INSTRUMENTAL DEMO NO YT VID - NOT essential but a nice add on. Not much different but much heavier on the drums
PERSONAL NOTES: - Another gem of a song from this album. It's a fun song to drive to despite not being a very happy song. It's got a great rhythm. Great track by Rog!
NEXT? One of the most underrated songs on the album. Some fans don't like it but I don't see how! Freddie's dramatic All God's People

All God's People
Written by: Freddie Mercury/Mike Moran
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, keyboards, programming Brian May - guitars John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums, timpani Mike Moran - piano, keyboards
- Issued on the B-Side to ‘Headlong’ in the UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, The Netherlands, and Philippines in May 1991.
- This originally was a demo during the Barcelona sessions entitled Africa By Night. It was never finished at the time so Freddie brought it to the band.
QUOTES:
"I love it too. I had less to do with that than I did most of the stuff on the album. That was originally something Freddie was going to do on a solo album (Barcelona) and gradually we all played on it. I went in and played guitar and it seemed to work very well. John went in and played bass, Roger put the drums in, so it became a Queen track. I love it. Not many people have spoken to me about it, but I think it's great. It's got a lot of depth to it." - Brian May - August 1991 - Guitar World
ALTERNATE VERSIONS
VINYL EDIT No YT VID -NOT ESSENTIAL - Slight fade
UNRELEASED VERSIONS
EARLY VERSION NO YT VID - NOT ESSENTIAL - mostly instrumental and not very different.
PERSONAL NOTES: - SUCH an underrated gem. It takes me back to The Lion King (where Africa By Night would come in). Some great gospel moments and some great instrumental passages. Beautiful track. Belongs in a musical.
NEXT? Roger get's nostalgic in These Are The Days Of Our Lives

These Are The Days Of Our Lives
Written by Roger Taylor
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals Brian May - guitars John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums, percussion, keyboards David Richards - keyboards
- Issued as a single backed with ‘Bijou’ in September 1991 in the US (where it did not chart). Issued as a Double A-side single with ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ in December 1991 in the UK (where it hit #1). Issued as a single with an unknown B-Side in Australia (where it hit #5), The Netherlands (where it hit #2), and Japan.
- Played live at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert (with George Michael and Lisa Stansfield), then again on Roger's solo tours and again during the 2005-2006 tours with live performances featuring on The Freddie Mercury Tribute, Five Live, Live At The Cyberbarn, Return Of The Champions, and 2005 Official Downloads (two versions) and of course during the 2012 tour.
- This was the final video that Freddie was able to film. It is EXTREMELY poignant, especially at the end when he appears to be speaking directly to the fans with his final...I still love you...VERY touching.
QUOTES:
"I was very pleased with that. That's the first take I recorded, and Roger said, 'Well...' And I said, 'Just leave it there for a while and let it sit. See if it grows on you.' I had a feeling about it. I really prefer it. We could've done a cut-and-dried solo which, on the face of it, would've been more dramatic, but that was where I wanted to go." - Brian May - August 1991 - Guitar World
ALTERNATE RELEASED VERSIONS
VINYL EDIT
- NOT ESSENTIAL - Percussion intro taken out
RADIO EDIT
- NOT ESSENTIAL - Takes out some guitar bits
LIVE VERSIONS
QUEEN + GEORGE MICHAEL & LISA STANSFIELD - FREDDIE MERCURY TRIBUTE 1992
- A nice version even though they screw up the words a bit.
ROGER TAYLOR @ CYBERBARN 1999
- Remastered and released this year on YT. Great version.
ROGER TAYLOR @ the BAND DU LAC CONCERTS 2005
- Interesting version with a clarinet replacing Brian's guitar!
QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS - 2005
- A nice version with Roger and Brian singing the duet.
QUEEN @ PRINCE'S TRUST 2010
- NOTE this is their whole 20 minute set but Days Of Our Lives if the first song. Perhaps my favorite version. I don't know quite why but it just fits very well and Roger/Brian vocals are very in the zone with each other. I really dug it.
QUEEN + ADAM LAMBERT - 2012
- MUCH like the 2005 version...they still got it!
SPECIAL: MAKING OF VIDEO[/u
- QUITE Sad to see - Freddie is getting towards the end and it's hard to watch
PERSONAL NOTES: - WHAT a classic. I think it's because Queen is SO over the top, dramatic, putting on a million vocals, guitars, etc...that makes the simplicity of this work so well. The nostalgia aspect works well also though. I wish we could have seen a Freddie/Roger duet of it...but either way one of my favs.
NEXT? Many will call it Innuendo's one misstep. Me, I think it's hilarious and needed due to the circumstances....an ode to Freddie's favorite cat, Delilah

Delilah
Written by Freddie Mercury
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, piano, keyboards, drum programming Brian May - guitars John Deacon - bass guitar
- Written about Freddie's favorite cat, Delilah! Freddie was a legendary cat lover. - Reportedly Roger hated the track so much that when Freddie introduced the "meowing" section he walked out without a word. It is no coincidence that Roger is not on this track.
QUOTE:
"I was pleased with the guitar on that - [mimics sound] 'meow, meow, meow'." Was that played through a talkbox? "Yeah. It's the first time. I finally succumbed and used one. They wheeled it in and I said, 'Well, I suppose there's no other way I can make "meow" noises.'" - Brian May - August 1991 - Guitar World
ALTERNATIVE VERSIONS
PROMO VERSION
- NOT ESSENTIAL but interesting version. - Slightly different take that was finalized after the promo Hints Of Innuendo was released.
DEMO
- NOT ESSENTIAL - just a slightly earlier version and it sounds like Freddie is sick.
PERSONAL NOTES: - I can understand why some don't like it. It's silly and it's very much a band catering to it's sick lead singer. But honestly, I am highly amused by it and not all music has to be seriously impacting. I find it funny and that's all that counts to me.
NEXT? We get super serious with the hard heavy rocker of The Hitman
