PERSONAL NOTES: A bit pointless to be honest, but it is such a nice sentiment and feel that it makes sense to trail off with this introspective piece.

NEXT? The album proper has ended, but there are two bonus tracks...the first is the first cover that almost made a Queen album (outside of God Save The Queen), a cover of the classic Del Shannon tune, Runaway

- Appears on the iTunes version of the album
- Initially planned to be on the album as the band indicated a cover would be on the album but for whatever reason it was relegated to a bonus track.
- Reportedly tried out a few times during soundchecks but never actually performed

PERSONAL NOTES:

- I LOVE this cover to be honest. Roger's Wah Wah Wah Wah backing vocals make the song but Brian's rocking guitar (and also his choir vocals) and Rog's power drumming are just spot on especially at the climactic ending.

- This was initially brought up and played live during the 2006 North American tour. It was heavily expected to be on any new QPR studio recording and was namechecked during the process. However the band did try to record it (so the demo exists somewhere) but the band was never happy with how it sounded so it eventually was discarded!

PERSONAL NOTES: While I'm glad that leaving this song off let us hear another song we may not have heard, it is sad that we don't have a studio version of this track as it does rock. It is very much a Paul Rodgers song, but as with most of the PR catalogue B&R add so much!

2008 LIVE PART I: THE COSMOS ROCKS TOUR

A little background:

Ok, so the QPR collaboration started with a tour of Europe and then into North America/Japan. The logical next step was to see if the new unit could work together in a studio and release an album which they did with The Cosmos Rocks. SO the next logical step is to tour the album which is where we got The Cosmos Rocks Tour.

Now during this tour it is said that there were some tensions. Not enough to break up friendships but enough perhaps to end the collaboration. It is rumored that Paul (and perhaps Roger) wanted to be more adventurous with the set list while Brian enjoyed relying on the old warhorses. Furthermore, by the time the South American leg came about, Paul was really feeling a bit lost as his long history was being relegated to performing a few tracks a night. Now this was Paul's suggestion and I don't think he was upset about it per se, but more he felt it was time to return to his career.

Now at the end of the tour, there had been talk about continuing into the US again in 2009 and preparations were begun but I think South America was it and they needed a break which turned into a hiatus.

NOW the gig itself? It started off slow with only 3 songs added from the new album, C-Lebrity (the single), Cosmos Rockin' (the title track), and Say It's Not True (which in all honesty had been performed a few times on tour anyways - just in a different format). As the tour went on though more and more were added and a few different PR songs as well. While some tension was there, I have to say, the performances were still up to snuff!

It took a long time to find an opening track. At first the band used One Vision just as in The Magic Tour. It was a bit sloppy so was dropped. Surf's Up was put in there a few times and that actually worked quite well I thought, but Brian didn't so it was relegated to a tape intro before going into Hammer To Fall (the fast version). I wasn't a huge fan of that opening, but it could have been worse. Surf's Up was played later on instead. Some other tidbits, I Want It All was played as the album version (without the chorus intro). '39 was played with Brian and Roger instead of just Brian. After the first verse/chorus, Brian stops and then says they need more musicians and soon Spike Edney, Danny Miranda, and Jamie Moses joined Brian and Roger up front. The "bass" solo was actually Danny standing with an upright bass and Roger hitting the bass with his drum sticks. Then Roger's solo was based on Roger's drumkit being rebuilt around him at the front of the stage as he played! After that was said and done Rog had a little set with I'm In Love With My Car and as the tour went on, he drummed and sang A Kind Of Magic before going into Say It's Not True. A nice section.

- A protest song with Roger on all instruments including stylophone.

- Later on, edited a bit and put on Roger's 2013 album, Fun On Earth as an "Abridged Version" - but we'll get there in 2013.

BUT what I will say is that this was the first and last time in awhile I was completely surprised about an appearance. In retrospect I shouldn't have been as it made absolute sense, but I heard NOTHING about this before hand which is rare and I happened to be at a friends house and they were watching. Kerry Ellis (+ Brian May) - Anthems

A little background:

This was a long LONG time coming. Brian first saw Kerry in My Fair Lady and that prompted him to ask her to audition for We Will Rock You. Kerry did and won the part of Meat.

After a few performances together here or there, Brian went to record an orchestral version of No-One But You for the Spanish cast, but when he was done he decided to try it out with Kerry first. This began a partnership. Soon after they began working on what was a 3 track EP called Wicked in Rock which was released in 2008. (I didn't go over this then because all these songs ended up also on Anthems).

At that point they decided to craft a full album together. It became quite the mish mash. They chose songs from Kerry's musical theatre background and rocked them up, they chose some Queen tracks and made them more musical theatre. They also chose some classic tracks, some newer tracks, and wrote two new tracks for the album...yet it sounds like a cohesive effort. The idea is simple. Anthems. They made big sweeping anthems with loud guitar and loud vocals.

It was released in the UK and hit #15.
