- A very Beatles-esque tune, especially the guitar solo.
- Again Roger does everything on the track making it a true solo track.
- This was debuted at a fan convention but didn't leak for a long long time.

PERSONAL NOTES:
Another one of my absolute favs. This could have been a Queen song - not something I can say about all of RT's solo stuff. But the choir is very Queenish. I had heard this one about a year before it came out and it whetted my appetite quite a bit. I hope this isn't the last RT solo album because he still has a lot to give.

NEXT? A solo version of QPR's Cosmos Rockin' - done in a bit of a different arrangement and under a new banner, Whole House Rockin'

PERSONAL NOTES: I prefer the more finished QPR version which I think Brian kind of streamlined, but I'm glad to have gotten the chance to hear Roger's initial vision. Another reason I want Queen anthologies to hear the original ideas pitched by members.

- It was claimed during production of Fun On Earth that William Orbit had done some work with Roger and this certainly would fit in well with his production.

PERSONAL NOTES: I love it! I call it relaxno. It's got a techno feel to it, but yet I want to lay on the Shores with a nice adult beverage.

OK! I'm going to be off on vacation starting tonight so no chance will be had to update this. I'll try to follow the concerts still...but maybe today I'll try to do 2 or 3 entries so that we can come back to finish catching up!

I think at that point I will switch and do live first (so that I can keep editing things in). THEN I'll enter in the studio product as it comes in!

2013 MISCELLANEOUS

All 4 tracks are separate tracks Brian was involved with to help save the badger.

The Badger

This poem, Badgers, was written especially for Brian May by Richard Bonfield, Born Free's poet in residence. He wrote it in September 2013.

There is of course, the scientific badger, that lives inside a thesis
And looks out of a mullioned window, his glass eyes staring from a glass case
And then, away across the snowy fields, there is the badger in the wild wood
Who has ham hocks hanging from smoke blackened rafters
And a gruff but kindly manner, to all carol singing dormice

And then, there is the badger of my own imagination, the snow plough of the stars
Who lives his life against the constellations, waxing as we are waning
Arriving as we are departing, developing in a shaft of (unknown) moonlight
Just behind the Cottingley fairies and Bottom's rude mechanicals
As he shuffles across the ardent stage clattering amongst the (unknown) shrouded arc lights

He has been with us since the skirts of the last ice age departed
And before this, he lived alongside Boxgrove man
We are entwined, as the roots of the greenwood, he goes with the territory
His address can be found in Doomsday, Mr Brock of Brackendale
Seventh wednesdays scratched in runes on his (unknown) hill door

He is part of our landscape, just as much as the woods and the weather
And lives in his inverted stately home which is always being added to or subtracted from
Depending on window taxes and high interest loans

Facing us, he's carved from the night, like a Celtic totem in the chalk
A face drawn with sparklers, a living buick woodcut, dreaming from the darkness
To the badger, the moon is a silver sun, the arc light of his silverscreen world
Where all is fifty shades of grey and smell reveals the light of day
The night tracks through the summer hay, the mist (unknown) of the bluebell way

If we could eavesdrop on his world, and watch the badger's life unfurl
We'd find that family is the thing, and burrowing and tunnelling
Spaghetti loops for every meal and peanuts which they love to steal
That play is central to a life whose backdrop is the starry night
That love is acting centre stage, oblivious of mankind's rage
Which would deny the badger's life and make of him a greenwood Christ
By hanging him upon a tree for all his HeWhoCannot ameded up perfidy

Be thankful then that he has friends
Who work to make this torture end
And let the badger's family be
Beneath the spreading chestnut tree

- This was a poem written for Brian's Save Me site. He decided to have actress and Born Free Foundation leader Virginia McKenna read it while he performed some light music behind it.

- Released under the banner, The Artful Badger, this is the most modernistic track Brian has done with guests. - The video is also very nice.

PERSONAL NOTES: Decent track. It almost makes you forget that it's an activist/protest song which is a good thing.

All in all, I appreciate Brian's work with the Badgers and animals in general. However, I would like to see a better balance. Thank goodness for QAL this year!

Brian May + Kerry Ellis - The Candlelight Concerts - Live at Montreux 2013

A little background:

This was from the duo's Candlelight Tour and their stop at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2013. It features just the three musicians doing stripped down versions of some famous tracks. It is similar to the 2013 album Acoustic By Candlelight which collected tracks from the whole tour. Indeed that album was included as a bonus CD in this release. This however is just from the one date.

Recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival at the Stravinski Auditorium, Montreux, Switzerland, on July 19, 2013.

Roger Taylor - Live at the Cyberbarn 1998 Revisited

A little background.

In 1998 after completing the Electric Fire album and before a full fledged tour, Roger decided to try and be innovative. The internet was something that was gaining traction and Roger decided to perform a concert in his backyard at his mansion in Surrey. He would broadcast this concert on the internet and try to break the world record for how many hits a live concert could get. Roger did get about 500 hits/second and he did break the record at the time. I think it has been surpassed since then.

This concert was never fully released though a VHS was circulated by the fan club which was a documentary of the event including snippets of tracks. Also live tracks from this gig were used as b-sides to Electric Fire singles. However this year, on Queen's Official You Tube Channel, the team has remastered the whole concert and released each song individually and finally at the end released the whole 50 minute gig in one video. It was well appreciated.

Normally I would be doing all the full albums so that means I'd be waiting for Live at the Rainbow '74 to document and then maybe (if it's this year...Queen Forever) BUT there is a collaboration - so I think I'll change tactics and just start documenting when I can....so Roger Taylor appeared on a track so far and so that's next!
