Talon, I'm sorry to say I am not familiar with any of these tracks :-[ .... until QAL Kiev concert where BM played some parts of Brighton Rock. Even then I was unaware of the what BM was playing until somebody identified it. I just love it and I remember AL tweeting a YT of the Kiev concert starting with BM's guitar solo and I couldn't stop replaying it.
I'm surprised! I know I'm biased but I assume EVERYONE knows Queen's Greatest Hits! :D I thought you would have heard of Killer Queen as NG suggests....I thought the possibility was there for a few of you to have heard Now I'm Here (also on GH) and Stone Cold Crazy (on Classic Queen and just a known track since Metallica covered it)...but no worries! This is what class is for!
And yes at QAL there were some definite Brighton Rock moments in the guitar solo! He is really amazing!
Another thing I noticed with BM's written songs they seem to really fit FM's voice. Not easy songs to cover.
Indeed! In fact this has been mentioned by Brian and Freddie. Freddie used to jokingly complain that Brian wrote rocker songs to make Freddie test the top of his range and ruin his beautiful voice! Brian also had been quoted saying that when he had a voice like Freddie singing his stuff it made it easier for Brian to test out ranges! But he also mentioned that when he wrote his solo album it was tough because he was so used to writing for Freddie that he was having a bit of a tough time!
OT... Talon, how did you discover AL?
1. You are an Idol watcher
2. Queen was in the AI-8 finale and AL and Kris Allen just happened to sing with them
3. You've heard of AL after Idol/possible QAL pairing

Ahhh turning the table a bit huh?
AL...Well I was a semi-Idol watcher. I didn't watch every season but I sporadically watched it. Ironically Adam's season was a season I hadn't been watching. Finally Mad World came out and it was popular enough that it broke through even to the non-Idol watching crowd and I saw it...and I thought..."DAMN! That boy can sing!"
It didn't bring me back to Idol BUT I did start watching his performances on the internet, etc. and I was definitely rooting for him. I didn't even know the Queen connection though it was quite obvious that he was influenced...
Towards the end I watched a few episodes and saw the auditions and was back in that season.
Finally my family went over to a friends house the night of the finale and amazingly enough it completely slipped by me that Queen was going to play! Usually I was up with the rumors and everything but I had heard nothing! So I watched and thought Adam kicked ass...I kind of wondered in the back of my head since at this point I knew of the influence and had seen his audition...and I was like hmmm...maybe?
Then I saw him perform with Kiss which I thought was pretty cool (I'm not a HUGE Kiss fan, but they have a ton of songs I do like). And I thought ah well....that's that. Hopefully he wins.
Then they started WATC and I thought...JEEZ they really should have gotten Brian and Roger! and then they appeared which is unusual...as I'm usually so tuned in, I ALWAYS know what they are doing. SO I watched and thought Adam again kicked ass and was going to win and was disappointed when he didn't.
Afterwards rumors flew and I thought well that would be cool...the purists would hate it but why not?
Then nothing. I knew AL was coming out with an album but I admit to being indifferent....I thought that I'd probably get it..eventually.
Then on Brian's soapbox he mentioned a song from a soundtrack (Time For Miracles) . I finally got that and was like WOW!!! At that point I decided to get the album and...liked it. I didn't love it...for much of the same reasons I don't love Trespassing....I'm not a fan of the direction of his music....but to each his/her own though. I loved SOME songs...Sleepwalker, Aftermath, and Miracles BUT it was good.
I then saw a show from the GN and thought it was a great show again. Some of the songs were much better live And that is how I became a fan...I became more of a fan during QAL and thought he handled himself QUITE well and respectful. He's still third on my list of singer for a Queen show though.
1. A resurrected Freddie
2. Brian and Roger doing a show themselves....
But 3. is Adam as he did a great job! :D
ETA: As I've told you I've never heard of Queen until I started following AL, kept mentioning it in his AI interview and made me curious when he said the reason he didn't want to cover Queen songs is he didn't want to sound karaoke :D ... so I thought, why would he say that? Then he mentioned FM and how some people compared his voice/range to FM. I googled FM and the rest is history ;D Thank you, Adam!
After Idol, still was not into their music then but more on who comprised the band?
Did buy the DVD: Becoming Queen
Was able to get hold of the Untold Story of FM :D
Now I'm addicted, thanks QAL concerts and you & your classes!

Another reason I do love Adam now...he's helping Glamberts get into Queen (and I'm doing my small part as well )
