Since Queen II was popular, how did the fans rate Sheer Heart Attack album overall?
The group took a chance with Killer Queen in that album but I assumed at this point the Queen fans are already used to "expect the unexpected" from Queen and KQ became not only a fan favorite but also became hit in the process ;D
SHA is a very highly regarded album overall. In fact there are many Queen fans who would list it as their fav.
A Night At The Opera is the "right" album to be a favorite in the general public as it was their most ambitious album, had
Bohemian Rhapsody etc.
Queen II is the chic fav album for Queen fanatics :D
BUT
Sheer Heart Attack is one of three...maybe four albums that are on that next tier with both the public and Queen fans alike (along with
A Day At The Races,
Innuendo and maybe
News Of The World or
The Game).
It also is the favorite of a few of the celebrity friends the band has...AND of Roger Taylor himself!
and in case you are wondering...Brian has mentioned
Queen II as his favorite.
Freddie never mentioned an album but supposedly he was most proud of
Somebody To LoveJohn loved
Dragon Attack but never really mentioned an album.
Brian and Roger both also have mentioned
Made In Heaven among their favs with Brian citing
Innuendo around that time as well.
Don't listen to any interviews with Roger when talking about an upcoming release because he ALWAYS said that such and such album was the best they ever did!
Bringing that back....We started off in a different place but we clued in on similar clues at the end.
It was first announced right around the time of the Lady Ga Ga rumor (which was NEVER serious and very much taken out of context. All Brian said was that he enjoyed working with her and would entertain performing with her when he was asked a direct question about it!....Suddenly it was Lady Ga Ga was touring with Queen!
Anyway it was announced and a few names were bandied about (none were AL at first). Generally it was Ga Ga given Brian's quote, but also thrown out there was Tom Chaplin from Keane (after the Prince's Trust thing), the guys from the Foo Fighters who were going to be there and Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance who was also going to be there.
Mostly though it was an excellent to see them nominated but trepadition about seeing them do WWRY/WATC again...with someone else. Many of the purists don't seem to understand that in a big global event they aren't going to be doing
Lily of The Valley. They are going to be doing the huge songs that everyone knows..but I digress.
Also at the immediate time was a rumor from a few radio gigs that John was going to show up so that took precedence from whomever was singing...
Although most rational Q fans shot down that idea pretty quickly.
Then Adam's tweet happened and that became the new (and unfortunately not very well liked) rumor.
Then when Bieber's manager tweeted it it was all confirmed in most our eyes.
As of that point though it was a very well kept thing...I think mostly because from what I read afterwards...it wasn't a done deal until that week. From what I read (not from a direct source mind you so take it with a grain of salt) that Brian did approach Ga Ga first and Ga Ga seemed interested but her music label wanted her to push her new single which was just about to be released in Europe AND combine that with the fact that her performances are always such spectacles that they needed too much rehearsal time to commit to doing both. At that point Brian and Roger thought that it must be fate telling them that now was the time to see if Adam was interested.
But I remember watching the EMAs and was convinced that Adam was singing with them but not absolutely certain until it happened.

Another aside and bringing back Justin Hawkins for a second. There was a quick interview with him and they showed his tattoo on his hand...yeah he's a big Queen fan
