What a beautiful masterpiece! I don't know where to begin... Everything about this song is amazing...the ballad, the piano/guitar/drums/bass, the harmony... it is just fantastic! Agreed! A lot of it comes from the promo video for Innuendo. Others are from bits of Freddie with the Royal Ballet. Some from the promo video of Bo Rhap AND other bits from different concerts. Much like it. Little intros can add so much imo LOL. Yeah Queen fans can be overwhelming! LOL...Understandable :D The only thing I didn't like about the Kiev version was the out of sync Freddie video! Adam has never been ANYTHING but respectful...to the situation to the band, to Freddie, to the audience. I respect him for that They definitely take their showcases VERY seriously. Always have a plan! Another reason I respect Adam! Bringing fandoms to Queen ....And me here

God Save The Queen
Traditional - Arranged by: Brian May
Musicians:
Brian May - guitars Roger Taylor - drums, timpani, orchestral cymbals
- Recorded to use at the end of concerts during the Sheer Heart Attack sessions, the band decided to also use it to end their biggest album.
- Still used to this day at the end of any proper Queen show. In concert the studio version is played over the speaker as the band bows. Ironically, it is performed by only the two who make up Queen today as Freddie and John sit this one out.
QUOTES:
- "That's something that we've had in our stage act for a long while, y'know, and when we were recording A Night At The Opera, I felt it just lent itself. The whole thing is done by Brian. It's all Brian's guitar, every bit of it, with cymbals and things. I told you we have nobody else coming in. We don't use synthesizers... Brian can get all those sounds with his guitar." - Freddie Mercury - 21/05/1976, Record Mirror
ALTERNATIVE VERSIONS:
SINGLE VERSION
- NOT essential. - Released as the B-Side to the 1975 re-release of Keep Yourself Alive. - The only difference is that instead of fading in, this version just crashes in.
UNRELEASED AND UNHEARD:
BRIAN MAY SOLO PIANO DEMOS - Brian at first arrangement, used a piano.
OFFICIALLY RELEASED LIVE VERSIONS:
GOLDEN JUBILEE 2002 VERSION
-- ESSENTIAL! The only true LIVE performance featuring Brian's iconic performance from the roof of Buckingham Palace! Brian live in front of the world again...and again the risk of playing it live far away from the orchestra with only some monitors. Very cool performance to open the Jubilee!
DOCUMENTARY:
THE MAKING OF GOD SAVE THE QUEEN+
- Sorry I couldn't find JUST God Save The Queen's part but it is the last part of this video...somewhere around the 9-10 minute mark.
PERSONAL NOTES: -- It's only fitting that Queen should cover this tune. Brian, like always, with the perfect arrangement.
That ends A Night At The Opera
Next up, I will take a glance into the remaining studio work of 1975. Roger Taylor appeared on two songs with different artists in this timeframe. Survival with Fox and Dangerous with Eugene Wallace. From there we have one miscellaneous NON-tour appearance by the band and then the A Night At The Opera Tour which goes into 1976!

A little housecleaning. I added the Documentary part to God Save The Queen. I also added Queen II Demo to the Unreleased and Unheard section of The Prophets SongCarry on... as if nothing really matters

Just had a proper in-depth discussion with a friend about ANATO. She did it in school last year as part of her music course! I go to *school* in this thread for enjoyment, but so wish I could have done it in proper school instead of... Ravel's Concerto in G

Entertainment Tonight just featured the DVD coming out next Tuesday, 9/25/2012 : Is this a re-issue or a newly released movie? ET showed a clip of FM kissing his BF... never seen FM's PDA with his BF before in any past documentary. Tomorrow they are going to feature Freddie's duet with Michael Jackson, the pet llama that came between them and why Freddie walked out while recording... hmmmm ... do you know why, Talon? _______________________________________________________________ ETA: God Save The QueenIsn't the derivative of this from the British National Anthem? Did they ask permission from THE QUEEN? :D BTW that clip of BM playing on the rooftop of BP is just awesome. Where was RT's location while BM was playing?

Entertainment Tonight just featured the DVD coming out next Tuesday, 9/25/2012 : Is this a re-issue or a newly released movie? ET showed a clip of FM kissing his BF... never seen FM's PDA with his BF before in any past documentary. YES! NEW! It is made by the same people that made the critically acclaimed Days Of Our Lives documentary from earlier. It has a couple of unreleased demos (well snippets of them) and TONS of unseen footage. From some people who saw advanced screenings, they say it is a smashing good job! Supposedly there are 3 recordings the pair made. One of which is State Of Shock which eventually Michael released with Mick Jagger. The second is There Must Be More To Life Than This that Freddie ended up releasing on his solo album and Victory that no one has heard (well I'm sure some have heard it but it is not in circulation). I know Michael was a HUGE Queen fan and was instrumental in getting the band to release Another One Bites The Dust as a single. Freddie and Michael worked together and then something happened. It is unclear exactly what. Some say that Michael caught Freddie doing cocaine and that ended their friendship. (Freddie was an occasional user of drugs especially in the 80s). Freddie once said that Michael had become something of a recluse and never really went out as much as he used to. I'm not entirely certain of the truth there.... :D Yes this is the National anthem! Roger was down in the orchestra pit doing Timpani which was close by to the stage... In other news...just got back from Hungarian Rhapsody which is a brief documentary taking the band from 1985 at Live Aid all the way through to a 1986 concert in Budapest, Hungary...and then show you the concert film. It was GLORIOUS. Great picture, sound, etc. If you look at www.screenvision.com/cinema-events/queen/ it might be showing a few different days if interested!

Today we will delve into the remaining studio work of 1975.
As this is a new feature, I will explain. As I delve year by year after the main studio releases, i will delve into any separate work the band did, whether it be singles or collaborations, or guest sessions or what not. I will not go into NEARLY the same amount of detail as these are generally not near enough important. Generally speaking, I might combine a few songs in a post like this but I reserve the right to expound on some more interesting collaborations.
In 1975 there are two releases involving Queen members...both of them being Roger Taylor.
The first song we will look at is a song by Eugene Wallace called
Dangerous by Eugene Wallace
Written by: ?
Roger Taylor - Drums
- Roger may have played on other tracks on this album but this is the only known one. Eugene Wallace was signed to Trident at the same time as Queen and Trident tried to package the two (with one more act) as a combo deal and in fact turned down a few offers from companies for Queen who wouldn't also take Wallace on.
- This was actually recorded pre-Queen in 1972 but wasn't released until Eugene's album was released in 1975. It is a very soulful rocker ala Joe Cocker. The drum sound is better than what was on Queen (the first album).
- All in all a good track and some good drumwork.
Survival
by Fox Written by: Armstrong/Young
Roger Taylor - Backing Vocals
- Shown before by NG in this thread, this is quite possibly Roger's highest vocals ever recorded. These falsetto backing vocals are OUT of this world. They occur throughout the song, but the highest are at the ending trail out.
- A very political song, which foreshadows a bit more of Roger's future solo work.
Next up we look into 1975's live shows...a one shot deal and the A Night At The Opera tour which goes through til March 1976.

So, Talon, although the Queen band was already formed, RT was still pursuing his own project? Wonder what would've happened if his side project became popular? Yep, RT as a young vocalist had really like a "velvet" voice in a high register. Don't know if that the right description but the high register voice is so smooth. I can't distinguish a head voice vs falsetto in Survival or is it all falsetto in: Higher, higher, higher, higher Higher, higher, higher, higher Higher, higher, higher, higher Higher, higher, higher, higher Higher, higher, higher, higher

Well it was less pursuing a side project and more likely he happened to be around the studio and was asked to guest!
There was never a sense of Roger leaving Queen...although at one point, Peter Gabriel did ask Roger to leave Queen to join Genesis before they got Phil Collins...THAT'S an interesting what if...:D
As for Rog's voice, it is definitely falsetto at the end...there might have been some head voice towards the beginning part - it's hard to tell...
